My top trim was fine and its been taken off 3 times, they are purely cosmetic anyway.
I would wait and see how yours comes off before tou pay out any money

The top finisher should be installed "with" the screen as it clips / sits over the top of the glass, once the screens bonded in, theres no way "imo" to get it off / out without bending it as you physically have to pull it away from the glass.

National windscreens made this "error" when doing a screen for me, it was not fitted correctly and they tried to push it in after the screen was in place, simply not possible to do.

now I am confused....are you talking about the rubber trim that sits on the roof and edge of the glass at the top of the screen...I just checked mine (04 plate) and its solid and it is the original one so what have they done to save it 3 times...any ideas cause I hope I haven't been shafted..lol

Sorry mate, i'm not wanting to get into an arguement with ya....you bring a car to me for an MOT without a screen, i'll just laugh at you.

This link is to a site a lot of MOT testers use.

There's nothing on that link that says to reject a vehicle without a windscreen, only reasons for rejecting vehicles presented with damaged or obscured windscreens.

On a vehicle where the windscreen isn't structural - there's no requirement to have a windscreen fitted, e.g. a soft top Series or Defender.

The windscreen on a Discovery II is bonded for less wind noise and better water sealing (yeh, right... :hysterically_laughi) I'm pretty sure it's not a structural component - that sort of thing is a weight saving trick employed on nasty little flimsy euroboxes.

.

I was chatting to my local MOT guy the other day as my transit had a cracked screen, he said "take it out and remove wipers if its not there i can't fail it" He is also a disco driver so he must know what he is doing:D

Oh No, I have got Autoglass coming tomorrow!!!! They're coming to fit a new windscreen in my Discovery TD5 (only had it three days) - after a lorry flew past and off-loaded a load of gravel onto my windscreen and bonnet. I also have paid my £75 excess and now think it might be best to live with the 2 chips and the crack.

Before they leave, check all the seal's, heated windscreen work's if fitted AND run a hose over it for leaks!

Tbh Autoglass did my 3rd screen and the 2 fitters were very good, so no complaints there........I would suggest its not which company does it, its the fitters skill that matters, although I was watching em like a hawk and pointing out the National windscreeen errors in an attempt to avoid those issues.

Well..... the poor guy turned up and I was at him, as soon as he got out of his van!!! "right, have you done these TD5's before?? do you know what you're doing,..... I have been talking to other owners and they have told me that these problems can happend........ seals, trim,..... clips breaking..... leaks afterwards"..... on and on I went" (well I am a woman). He assured me he had been fitting windscreens for 6 years and he had done a good few TD5's he had the top trim replacement with him, he had new clips with him for the side bits (he knew they always snapped). OK - I trust you.... get on with it. He did a brilliant job - although I think we made him nervous, as the Disco was parked right outside our kitchen window and I was ... washing up!! He gave us the paperwork (which is our guarantee for the whole time we own that vehicle). Like mentioned above, its not necessarily the company, but the skill of the workman. Now had he said, it was his first TD5, I would have sent him away. :D

Success on Tuesday, National Windscreens came and the guy was a Landy owner he did a good job and fitted a new trim.
