It is actually an easy job, all you need is a jack, axle stands, and some big spanners and basic hand tools.
Getting the bushes out can be a pain, I take them to the local agricultural machinery place, and they press them out for a few quid.
Landies are simple old technology, if you can do meccano, and are reasonably strong and patient, you can do a lot of landrover mechanics!

Bushes can be tricky if they are OE as these need a big press to get them in. Poly bushes require no special tools, just a decent socket set/long bar/vice. Go over to Busters photo repair section on this forum to see how easy it can be.

Just looking at prices-think it would be £80 for a bushing press kit and £40 for a press ( both ebay jobbies)- along with axles stands (I already have spanner and socket set and a normal jack) would this be all I need?

Link to the press? A cheap press can be dangerous, they put a lot of load on the part being pressed, it would be better to take the arm to a workshop and get someone with a decent press to do it for you.
Yes I did, and they recommended I had the work done soon-ish. Does the price for parts and labour seem reasonable? I just want to get to the stage where it does not need anything major needing doing for a year or two if that makes sense
Hahaha you just made me **** my pants reading that mate. A year or two- I don't think I go a month without having to get my spanners out
Like others have said, a lot of jobs might seem daunting but there is so much info on here about said jobs, get reading and Just give it a go and if you get stuck post a question- someone will have the answer for you. Even if the answer is "this jobs not for the diy'er, take it to a garage" but then what have you lost! I've found this site invaluable mate- must of saved me £££'s

He said a "bushing press kit" and "press"
So I assumed a bushing press kit was some form of mandrel for pushing the bushes out.
I've got a press and it's miles easier than by hand, was just saying I use sockets as my "mandrel" if you like.
Maybe I got the wrong end of the stick with what he said.

I think the biggest problems for me are-I don`t have a nice garage that is stacked with every available tool, and everyone seems to have a mate/dad/uncle etc who can help them, then people say its easy-I`m sure it is for them when they have someone to help them and years of experience!

No , sorry , that would bend, you need a hydraulic press. 1/2 ton is nowhere near enough for an old bushing on one of these vehicles'
What you have to remember is cheap tools wont work, you need tools you can rely on and think of them as an investment.
A genuine (not haines) workshop manual and a parts catalogue would be a good start, I can recommend Halfords Pro tools, cheap on EBay if you buy one tool at a time.
You will be financially crippled if you have to pay a garage to do work on your landy all the time.
Saying that, I got a good 4 or 5 year run out of mine after fixing everything, apart from the usual maintenance.
You don't need a garage , or a lot of tools.
You will need a jack, a 13 , 15 , 16 , 17 , 19 and 21mm spanner plus two 9/16 spanners, a socket set , breaker bar, screw drivers , drifts, hub nut spanner, a few larger sockets for diff flanges etc , a jack , a couple of axle stands (2 ton minimum) from the top of my head to do most things, but each job you take on buy the tools to do it, this way you don't have to fork out right, every job you do will have a smaller outlay as you will be acquiring tools as you go and you will be gaining experience.

This might do but its cheap and nasty, seriously, take the arms off and bring them to a garage, have them remove the bushes for you then fit polybushes, put arms back on.

I wouldn't recommend buying a press to do the bushes. Ones good enough to get bushes in/out are expensive and wouldn't get used enough to justify the cost. You can have a mechanic do them for you or use polybushes.
