The top bar on my swing away has cracked.

Before I try and weld it back together (it is galvanised) does any body recognise the make so I can price up a replacement. I had the whole thing galvanised so if I can use the same mounting brackets and just replace the arm it would be preferable and saves drilling new holes in the bodywork.

Apart from the Hi-Lift brackets it is a dead ringer for my old WH carrier.
Bought about 16-years ago mine is still going strong although I did have it galvanised a few years ago. WH were re-branded but I am afraid I can't remember what their new name was (is).

they also built them for other suppliers that put their name on them, they are now safari equip or at least were last time i looked,when they were the agents for maxi drive axle lockers i used to to do i bit for them

I would slip a piece of pipe over the O D and weld it as that part must take the jarring it would in fact strengthen it up. ;)

Unfortunatly due to the other part of the frame the crack is right where the end of the pipe would end up being. I will have a look and see if it would be possible to notch it sort similar. Would be good to try and strengthen it.
 
Yes i did notice that but i think a little thought and fettling it would certainly strengthen it up.
Its obviously cracked at the weakest point so would be good to strengthen there.
 
I would put a tight fitting tube on the "inside" of both pieces then weld it up, taking care not to breathe in the poisonous zink fumes. Grind the weld flush then repaint it. You could even drill through the tubes upwards on both sides and bolt it as an extra measure.
 
looking at the price of a replacemnt i think it will be a a case of reapiring the one I have. I do not think it has cracked all the way around yet so will most likely gor for tube on the outside rather than the inside however if it has I may do both just to be safe.
 
Like scooby said slide a pipe or even a solid slug inside and weld it up but I'd also weld a triangular gusset into the inside corner.
