you live in a country with shocking rust issues. To me i wouldnt look to far past just a simple device like this. If you search for electronic car body protection devices you will see similar systems with remote units like the one in your photo

I think you're on to something there...

To add to it. Look at the supply connection. It has 8 wires connecting to the plug. The other conections have 5. Chances are you should have another box coming off the main power connection along with earth power and acc.

Its a great idea, thanks for the information, I have checked with it powered up and there is no magnetic or electro magnetic field around it, also the 'sensors' appear to be receivers and not transmitters. I really appreciate all the help on here, that's what I like about owning a Landrover - lots of fantastic folks always willing to help you, Landrover owners go out of their way to help, and are the best people on the planet !!

Thanks for that, yes it could be the answer, just seems odd that no one can directly identify it, usually someone will know what things are if they are commonly fitted, so maybe its a prototype or something like that, I am grateful for your help and everyone else's too.
