Perhaps its the land rover anti theft device we've all been looking for . How can thieves disarm it if we don't even know what the hell it is. Genius!
LOL yes now that could be it - as you say, pure genius !Perhaps its the land rover anti theft device we've all been looking for . How can thieves disarm it if we don't even know what the hell it is. Genius!
a larger picture !!
it couldn't really be that, however it was my omission not to mention that these 'boxes' were fixed to the chassis with double sided tape, so I doubt that very ingenious answer is the one, sorry I didn't specify how they were fixed.Could be a corrosion monitor, records the changes of the magnetic response of the chassis as oxidisation occurs......
that of course is possible crap, definitely looks like it data logs hence the eeprom and memory back up battery.
Strange find though!
Now that's original thinking, and also possible I guess, thanks for that idea.Don't know what it is but I have worked on a few RR's owned by "VIP's" that have bomb detectors fitted always wondered how they work, just assumed they were some sort of listening device that detected some insurgent fixing said bomb to the underside.
Yes, the vehicle has had a few owners, I will try to trace the original purchaser to see if they can help, I am very curious about it.Some sort of detection device for something or other, you should trace the original owner, could be a good bedtime story behind it!
Hmmmm interesting idea - seems I have been missing out on some fun thenIt looks like a multi-sensor device that is fitted by the Vice squad, (surreptitiously) to a vehicle where it is known that it is used for dogging on a hire by night basis!
Yes, something similar was suggested, but the boxes are held down with double sided tape, and not in direct contact with any part of the chassis. There are 8 boxes, two were actually in the roof lining! I only found them by tracing the wires from the main unit. two more were fitted in the load space near the rear wheels ( the main unit was also located in the load space under the carpet and rubber underlay) the remaining four were placed under the carpets, two behind and two in front of the front seats.Where are the actual boxes fitted, are we just talking various chassis locations or two per corner near suspension components etc. My guess is some form of datalogger to measure flexure or more likely shock loading
the sensors arent microphones.
