well bought my 51 plate 4.0hse in feb and it had an mot done in late january. thought the brakes were a bit crap and it didnt handle very well so looked at the brakes drivers side pads were about 30 miles from being metal to metal so replaced them. handling wise i put a new steering damper on and replaced the anti roll bar drop links. when i looked at the old ones i shook them up and down and they wobbled about like a jelly. surely the anti roll bar drop links and the brake pads were an mot fail. now i have a friend who works for vosa so i think ill be giving him a ring on monday morning and telling him to have a look at said garage!!!!

i just take the pads of when mot'ing, cant fail if there nt there in first place ;)
OJ!
Yh sounds slightly dodgy, depends what was left on the pads when it was mot'd and has it done many miles since?

i got similar when i got my p38
full mot but when i went to get the lpg serviced emissions were off the scale over 10%
there is some right c***s in this world

Moaning bastids. my 110 had a full mot when I bought it,

Front springs had collapsed and 1st 3 rows of coils were touching.
Front O/S dumb Iron had a fist sized hole in it and chassis leg had to be replaced all the way back to the droparm bracket.
swivels were ****ing grease out,
Brake caliper pistons were seized on
Pads had about 2 mm left on em
discs were 3mm below minimum thickness and heavily corroded
wheel bearing were fooked
In fact the whole of both sides of the front axles had to be replaced, inc stub axles, swivela, CV's bearings discs callipers and pads.
Chassis has more patches than a beggars cloak..

even the best can get caught out

after looking at everything on the car i reckon ive got a bit of work to do but its a nice looking beast so think it will be worth the messing about.

knew about chassis. and bought on ebay unseen.. Though the ebay ad said +vat on final price. Won it for £2k He never got the £400Vat  The rest is just consumables.

Just weren't expecting to have to do it all within 2 months of buying it. :( :(

well just think of it as he let u keep the 400 to sort the problems out ;)

Guessing this is same problem I had with my Td5. As had MOT day before I picked it up and exhaust fell of (rusted through) on the drive home. Surely this would of shown on mot? Also wipers didn't work at all and I'm sure that's a fail.

Testers don't have time to test for everything on the list so it is pot luck and dealers choice what they look for. The tester I use is big on bushes and rust. Place I used down south was anal for electrics and emissions.

MoT Test doesn't mean a vehicle is safe or in good condition, just the bare minimum.

Its hard to tell how worn pads are without actually taking the wheel off. If it passes the brake roller test and the discs aren't worn or badly damaged then thin looking pads usually just get advised.

I had a customer buy a disco with 10 months MoT. He asked me to look at the chassis as there is a little rot needs attending to.

I promptly told him to get back in touch with the garage he bought it from only 2 weeks ago!!!
