1997 LAND ROVER 90 DEFENDER SW 300 TDI WHITE & BLACK SPECIAL | eBay

Anyone had an interest in this one?
After some communication with the seller, and ebay, I'm of the opinion it may be a stolen, resprayed Landy.

There is no offer to view the vehicle, no viewing whatsoever. The seller apparently lives in Scotland but the Landy is in Leicester.

The sale is based on a delivery only sale ie. you pay, he/she delivers, when the Landy arrives the money is transferred by ebay (This option doesn't exist via ebay), if you're not happy he/she refunds your money....

What bull****e!

Pics look good. Check the plates on a reg checker then ask for a viewing. If they still say no then walk away. If you can view then the reg checker sends the last digits of the vin. If all looks good then good luck. Somebody will buy it!!

You could be very clever about it and possibly get someone their Landy back.

You could construct a series of fake Paypal emails stating that half or all the money has been sent/held in escrow and say you'll give him the rest on delivery. (actually happend to me once, lost a phone :( )

Or send him a cheque and cancel it.

Get the VIN and ring the Old Bill.

Either way try to get a viewing and get all the details of the Landy then see if it is nicked.

That seems way too cheap for what it is.

Exactly. I have no interest in this sale, though initially I was curious being as it was "too good to be true" and wanted to find out what kind of scam it was.

I'm sure they he/she is up to no good!

Ouu this is an interesting one, i'm having a bit of a chat with the "seller" about it at present... I'll post up the email chain when it concludes :)

i tried to sell a bmw motorbike once for 2/3 of what the going rate (as i was skint and desperate when i was younger lol)

no one bought it, all the messages i had were "whats wrong with it?" type things

added a grand to the price and it sold within an hour.

So in the interest of fairness... it could be a genuine (if not too bright) seller.

sorry wrote that without reading bumps msg...

Well, here is my email conversation with the seller to date...

Hello,
Are you still interested ? The land rover is still for sale. Immaculate condition, no damages, nothing to worry about. All necessary documents available. My current location is Scotland due to my work commitments. If this is going to be a quick sale, I will let it go for £3,900 delivered at my costs.
The deal will go strictly according to eBay Buyer Protection rules and policy.
Thank you

Sarah

Hi Sarah,

Yes i am interested, however, I would be a bit concerned buying it without even seeing it first. Is it possible to see it in Leicester where it is parked up, or is someone locally holding the keys who could let us look at it properly?

What payment method would you want to use? I wouldn't be comfortable paying for the vehicle till I had it in my possession, would a delivery firm take cash on delivery on your behalf?

Thanks,

Mike

I will not be able to arrange cod service but eBay will provide us a safe and convenient way to proceed.
Here is how the process works with the eBay Buyer Protection Program:

- you give me your full name and shipping address
- I start the transaction with the eBay,
- they send further payment instructions,
- you have to pay for the item to eBay to secure the funds,
- they confirm me that they received the funds,
- I deliver the car,
- you receive the car,
- they send me the money.

Everything is covered by eBay. I will get paid only after you confirm that you received the car in good order.
Let me know if this is acceptable. Thank you

Hi,

Which Escrow service would this be using? eBay don't have their own Escrow service to hold and release money so I assume you are proposing we use a 3rd party company to hold the funds until the item is received?

Is it possible to test drive the car on arrival to ensure it works properly?

Thanks, Mike

Its not escrow but its something like escrow its the ebay buyer protection program. You will be able to test the car before you decide to keep it.

I am not sure if eBay will provide paypal or another payment method because you dont pay me directly with the Buyer Protection Program anyway you can give me the details now so we can get this started and then you have the exact instructions.

Hi,

Well can you provide me the link to the eBay service you intend to use so i can read it through first?

Is it possible to go and see the vehicle in Leicester even if the keys aren't in Leicester, just so I can give it a check over?

Thanks, Mike

Sorry for inconvenience but viewing is not available this is the reason I insisted to do it genuine with eBay. A full refund/return policy is available.

Ok,

Well if it is going to be done genuinely through eBay why can't you send me a link to the eBay process you'll be following? I've read the buyer protection article and it doesn't say anything about what you're saying?

I just want to know what payment system you'll be using so i know i'm protected, that's all.

To start the official transaction, I need to know your delivery information. As soon as I have them I'll start the official procedure, and eBay will send further instructions including payment and delivery terms.
Thank you

Scam written all over it. Big time.
I bet the vehicle doesn't even exist. Seems to me they're simply desperate to obtain your details, liberate you of your money and then disappear without trace.

I found pics & description of my very own car for sale on eBay, once. True story.

I've finally "buckled" into the pressure of providing my details and given them my address.

Coincidently... it's identical to the address of the Police station in Leicester... odd that :)

Bump. Ask Sarah to confirm the last 4 numbers of the vin. They should be 0266. And first registered in May 97. 8 owners and no colour change. I found this out easily. If 'she' is bright so will she but interesting to see what the response will be.
