including haead gasket kit, oil, flush and the tools required to do the job and with the skimming its alreay cost me near £500 so i wouldint say im trying to do a half job i was meaning if i replace everything its gonna cost me the same price as the garage bill would have been and the only reason for not putting it in was i aint got the money!

And the moral of the story is. If you don't know how to do something and you have not got the tools to do it. Pay someone who does and has. Much cheaper in the long run.

so remove all these tappets drain oil and look at them if they look worn what? and what bit are the rocker shafts? is this the springs etc thats all still attached to the heads? and if this is worn what? should i just be replacing every part with new? im beginning to wonder if this is gonna cost the same as the garage quote would have been

Ok so you have obviously never done this before. First of all if you take out the tappets (camfollowers) they MUST be put back on the same lobe they were removed from, do not mix them up. Look at the bottom of the tappet, the bit that touches the cam. It should be perfectly flat. A couple of witness marks are ok. If they are dished in the middle do not just fit new ones. They will become old ones in very quick time. And the old cam will not live long. The tappets do not fit in the centre of the cam, the cam is slightly off set, this causes the tappet barrel to spin slowly as the cam acts on it. If the tappet is dished then the cam will also be slanted. It should be flat. If there is any dishing on any of the tappet barrels fit a new camshaft and barrels.
