sorry gav im not with you on that one lol too technical i assume your on about whats still attached to the heads yeah i was wondering about that looks technical i was hoping to give them away like that to be skimmed, so will i have to remove all the sprigs and stuff on there looks alot!!

ah yes they are bout the size of a socket do i have to take them out and squeeze them then?? whats the reason for that i was gonna just leave them in there lol

will that not mis-shape them or something? i have not got a vice but will buy one lol if i need one

use a steel rule to run over it and use a composite gasket in stead of standard one when you bolt it back on?dont no if that effect from blown gasket but looks like been running lean which may have been the coarse .oh and run some briax sealwell.which is a must we find over here!
and chevy pre-loaded lifters are cheap nothing worse than a noisy lifter after you put it back to gether :D

its leak sealing and cleaning additives for automotive radiators - a Radweld equivalent, I reckon. Use at your own risk :(.

Maybe they use Chevy Lifters as replacements for the Rover ones. I assume they must be oil filled - or roller rockers?

i have never done this job before and trying to make the best job i can but id rather not stick any additives in there im unsure of and the lifters look fine no one has mentioned them before!

More important than emptying the tappets is to have a look at the wear pattern on the tappet face where it contacts the camshaft. Also strip the rocker shafts down and examine them for wear..you cannot see the wear on the rocker shafts with it assembled, fair bet they are also worn.

so remove all these tappets drain oil and look at them if they look worn what? and what bit are the rocker shafts? is this the springs etc thats all still attached to the heads? and if this is worn what? should i just be replacing every part with new? im beginning to wonder if this is gonna cost the same as the garage quote would have been

It's the long shafts with 8 arms mounted on them, they run vitually the length of the head.
At the end of the day you either do the job properly or half do it. Cheapest fix?? is to just replace the head gaskets, bolt it all up, put new oil in and run it. If you are frightened to spend the cash or don't want to check everything out whilst it's down, then that's your choice. I call it preventative maintenance.
The garage would just throw a new gasket on, and wait for your next visit.

including haead gasket kit, oil, flush and the tools required to do the job and with the skimming its alreay cost me near £500 so i wouldint say im trying to do a half job i was meaning if i replace everything its gonna cost me the same price as the garage bill would have been and the only reason for not putting it in was i aint got the money!

so you mean on the heads? the holes these arms run through? as the rods are all out so i should look through the holes to see what they look like surely if there worn i need new heads then and not to skim as these are one piece?
