But that's the charm - you feel like you're driving a P38 - so many modern cars are boring to drive. You can go too far with the charm bit though, like my brother's lightweight 2.5 petrol which absolutely deafens you above 30 mph, is freezing cold inside and it returns worse fuel economy than my 4.6 litre V8!

I loved my 1/2 ton & it turned many a head sadly I sold it as I hardly used it except on a nice summers day, my youngest son used to dress up army & I would take him a drive about with the canvass off he loved it ( but my spine/ears/arms didn't) oh happy days

We get the clutches in at work alot, theres a Bush that is too big on the insdie diameter, let's oil through and then slips and burns out. This is what the mechanic/customer told me anyway, I'm just a toolmaker so I could be wrong :)

Some years back when I first started looking at P38’s they were 10 to 15 grand and there was a lot of un-cared for rubbish about. I waited a few years got (touch wood) a good one for 7k as the ones that had been looked after had become more affordable. I guess the a similar lifecycle will be happening with L322 to some extent. But for now the P38 remains on my driveway, never had a day’s regret, its fast, comfortable, rust free more reliable than by BMW coupe. But the day will come and for me it’s likely to be 4.2 supercharged. And I'm looking forward to it.

Drove on-base this morning got collared for a random vehicle search, after which he grinned and said…’ love these old Rangies…’.

I'm umming and ahhing about the same thing as I'm pretty sure mine is going to need an engine sooner rather than later and they're really not cheap on a P38! In fact I can buy a L322 on lpg for about the same price as an engine change (one that will last more than 5 minutes anyway).

I like to use my Landies though (don't understand why people own them otherwise) and I think I might be a bit nervous about green laning an L322 as even the P38 seems too big sometimes. I remember the first few bramble scratches I got on my P38 - painful they were to hear!! I can't imagine how much more painful they would be on a L322!!

I'm umming and ahhing between a mint P38 diesel and a mint Classic diesel for very similar reasons - it'll be my daily so the P38 wins for ease of use and comfort but the Classic is far far prettier and more charismatic. Sorry that was a bit off topic and irrelevant lol. :)

Driving onto a client site last week all suited and booted I got the thumbs up and "lovely motor" from the security guard on the gate who waved me through. It's now classless car, a shiny newer Rangie would have probably got him thinking "yuppie tw@t" while he went over my security credentials 5 times! :D

I guess I should comment on the thread - if you think you want a L322 then you probably want a L322 and you're just trying to get us to justify it for you - well we can't - you can't justify a used Range Rover, they are (generally) unreliable, uneconomical and expensive to maintain. If you want one - buy one. That's what life's all about.

Hit the nail on the head there Steve. My opinion exactly :)

I have to admit that is probably the best thing I've ever seen written on the subject. He's so right - just buy one! :)
