Nice work Ian :)

Yep could do with lowering the damper a touch, need to be almost horizontal tbh, but also need to be mounted forward of the bar do that when the NSF wheel is at full bump the bar tucks behind the damper almost.

I can supply more pics if it helps.

Also, regards the suspension, as soon as you fit a winch and bumper she will level out, be wary of lifting the rear cos then it'll be too high at the back come winch time.

Expect to drop at least an inch once the front end is loaded up.

That Takata picture is legendary :D

So the weekend saw some lovely muddy lanes and the visit of a silly elecical issue.

After a big water splash I lost the rev counter. Now at the same time I had the battery light come on a little while and then all was good.

Later in the afternoon the rev counter stopped working again and then this morning the car wouldn't start. Battery was OK and so tonight I hit the starter with a hammer and away she started. Rev counter worked and charging well.

Then after I turned it off and started it again, the rev counter won't work and the battery light is faint, let's say just on.

So I am thinking a new alternator. But first I will clean the connections BUT what about the starter?

Could it all be related to the solenoid connections? Or something else?

Haven't got an answer for ya : ) but I would be intrigued if you work it out,had same thing couple times but can't remember if it was before I changed batt and alternator.
Car was looking good sat mate, have to get out again soon.

got the feint charge light and erratic rev counter too.
counter sort of works up to about 1500rpm then kinda double.
if i have heaters or lights on it adds about 2000 to the reading as well.
been like it 3 years now, still charges ok, one day i'll get round to looking at it!

thats the alternator Ian.

seems to be common with the old type lucas alternator. ive got through about 4 or 5 in a couple years!

i find if i get failure off road then first thing is a good squirt out with water (hosepipe of just bottle of water with engine running) and then a few knocks with a big hammer normally bring it to life.

however the older the alternator, the more likely it is to fail and not be recoverable.

euro car parts do genuine lucas for about 40 quid, cheaper than their chinese alternative! well worth a purchase.

starter again could easily be faulty, my original magneti marelli only lasted a few months into my off roading time and after about 6 months of removing stripping and refitting every time I went off road i replaced with a britpart which has been great since. I'm not sure about the Tdi starter but my problem was the contact pack was not accessible on the end of the solenoid so I couldn't service them. The final straw was that the motor/bendix started screaming so I decided to get a whole new unit instead.

Well this week is just going great. Heres a laught for you all.

Firstly I have the half marathon on Sunday, yes I completed it but my knee went at 8 miles and had to hop and skip around the last 5 miles.

Stiff all day Monday, and then the car wouldn't start Tuesday. That night the misses stresses out in order to rush around and collect me from work and then whilst driving home we get a call to say that our rabbit was dead. Off to the vets and £13 later poor old Earl is off to the crematorium and I am back home with our little girl crying her eyes out.

So today I take the discovery to work and figure I will get both the radius arms and the alternator on the way home. Get to the 4x4 place and they have the wrong parts.

So get home and strip the alternator to find the brushes are ****ed. So need a new one as the armature is worn too and the bearings are a little noisy.

So now I still have a sore knee and need to cycle to work in the morning and it's only Wednesday lol.

So euro car parts it is Sam. Cheers mate.

oh thats a shame ian, i thought the 200 shapes all had the same alternator, regardless.

i am trade though, i wouldnt have thought it made a massive difference and/or you could blag it.

they do an RTX brand which is ****e, but due to costs of shipping etc and the fact that Lucas have stepped up their game, euro can now offer the lucas cheaper than the RTX.

let me know if you need a part number...

Before I reach for the sodding razor blades...............

So there I am this morning at work. I emailed the 4x4 place local to me and checked that
A) they were going to have the radius arms ready for me to collect tonight &
B) they had an alternator in stock for my Disco. I gave them the year etc etc.

Tonight I left work and drove 30 odd minutes in the opposite direction to home, and arrived in good time before they shut.

Firstly the radius arms were not ready.......
Secondly the price given to me was a quarter of what they wanted..........
So brought the alternator and that was £20 more than quoted too..........

Finally I got home after battling through traffic and the alternator is the wrong one. Is anybody else totalling ****ed off with **** poor customer service, bad knowledge and bull**** by so called experts.

Roll on Hornet 4x4 products brought to you by mudmonkey.....enough is enough

Fortunately god gave us alcohol to help deal with these minor ripples in our pond.
That way we don't :violent: the useless tossers that fail to give us what we are paying for.

Thank god for Jack Daniels.

Anyhow, went in the garage and 30 mins later all sorted and ready for fitting tomorrow. What one man can make, another can amend.

Adapt and overcome! Lol
