Well guess what is ready for an MOT?

Finally the GreenHornet is ready for the big test and I am feeling like an expectant father. I am sure that there is some small clip, bolt or screw that I have missed as its been 7 months since I started the work on her.

Tonight I screwed down the boot floor, clipped in the rear panels and fitted the boot carpet to make it look a little better than a bare shell on wheels.

I will be happy to report back on the driving experience and obviously the result of the test once done.

I take it, it has passed with flying colours??

bloody hope so, will be a gutter if something isnt right after all the hard work you have been putting in.

I did manage to miss a bolt off one of the body mounts and there was a couple of other small items but overall she is ready for the road. Huge thanks goes out to Matt for helping me out, what a star! (don't forget those pics of the arches as they get fitted).

So how was she to drive? Well not too bad actually. I was a little concerned that she would ride awful but overall I avert happy.

I need to do the castor correction arms as the lift has obviously caused the steering to loose it's self centring capability. It is also a little twitchy and wanders due to the change. The steering lock is unchanged and in act there is another inch or so that I can go.

The rear spring relocators are catching on the springs and causing a right racket when the rear bounces off bumps. These need a gentle tap with a sledge hammer :) to adjust the correctly. Once this done it should be a nice quiet ride.

Gearing doesn't seem too affected and engine still pulls strongly but then again it is a nice lump and runs sweetly on oil at present. A nice 50:50 mix sorts her out.

The brakes are all good and are bedding in nicely now that the rust has been rubbed off.

Finally the props. The front one will need the spacer on it that I got froM Mr Noisy. The slider is almost out :(. The rear seems fine at the moment but both ends will be treated to new props soon as. Can't go off road without so it is high priority.

All in all it is great to have it back on the road. Pics to come once I get daylight and the polish out.

Cheers storm. I really appreciate the feedback.

I still have a lot of stuff to do so will be bending everyone's ear for a while yet if that's OK. I have already gotten the rear bumper sketched up and a few templates done for the front and then there are all the little mods still to do like steering bars, trailing arms, castor arms, side exit exhaust (Matt, have these bends been ordered yet me old?), plus a lot more.

Hopefully I can keep you entertained for a while longer. :D:D

yeah it looks like birmingham is around half way house, not sure what use that sort of area is for a laning weekend though :D

i'm getting into memory map more and more these days so will see if i can track some routes down and we can decide whats what.

yours is gonna make mine look small and ****ed :p
 
i think the thing with memory map is that most people on the scene use it so its the most useable regards sharing overlays etc.

i do find it easy to use though and the gps addition was only around 30 quid, and it works.

chuffed tbh!

Sounds a good recommendation so happy to take it :D

Have my old lappy that will o in the vehicle rather than using my iPad. Will perhaps make a bracket similar to yours. How is that working out?
 
yeah i use my old dell, its great.

laptop mount is super.

i remove it for motorway drives etc cos it is a bit of a passenger hazard, but on laning trips we're not usually exceeding 30mph apart from drive to and from, its only 4 bolts so its no prob.

its very sturdy though and ideal for the navigator, quite exciting actually having your own on board navigation. im a geek, i know.
 
Must say , it has been a nice thread to read this... would like to see the beast in action , and see some **** all over it. any ideas when its going to set sail ?????

Just having an argument with the misses about that. She wants to go now and I am arguing regarding the prop spacer which is lost on her lol.

What about I find some mud this weekend...........

These could do. I tell you what. I have a bit of exhaust from the beemer. It could be stainless but will have a look and then perhaps make a pattern section for us to use.

Give me the weekend. BTW I still have the pads and will put them in the car if I remember and drop them round.
