Hi all bought a d2 with a knackered engine I want to do away with td5 as there a pain to work on, with too much to go wrong, does anyone know how to do this conversion? I've seen someone say you can just put a 300tdi bell housing on the td5 gearbox? The disco also has "ACE" does anyone know what happens if you disconnect this? I think the wiring is going to be a nightmare though, for MOT reasons id like to know how to sort all the dash lights out if I rip all the sensors out, short of taking the dash out and removing the lights!

Any advice would be appreciated.

Adam

See if you can pick up the latest issue of LRO. I was flicking through it in Smiths today and I noticed they had an article on a D2 with a 300TDI fitted :)

You can remove the ace and fit standard rollbars instead but you can't just disconnect it

I was always lead to believe that it weren't legal to fit an older/less efficient engine? upgrade ok and downgrade not:confused:

Hmm not that I know of? although the 300tdi is older i would be inclined to say its more environmentally friendly anyways, it gets 30mpg rather than the td5's 25 mpg also i can run the 300 100% on bio diesel where as the td5 cannot so not only am i recycling old veg oil and have around 1/2 the amount of co2 coming out the exhaust of a td5 I'm also getting more to the gallon :)

I would but for the price I got this I might as well carry on with the engine I've already ripped have the engine out so Might as ell finish it, I'd rather not do another boot floor either lol.

you prefer repairing the rear chassis instead do ya? :D

regards to the above post which mentions ace and changing anti roll bars if your gonna be off roading it I'd just remove the arb's anyway, there is a thread on here somewhere where someones done a project on a TD5 and there is a LRO mag with a Disco 2 that has a 300 lump in it...

it it longer than a D1?

cant say i noticed any difference it was a couple of years ago, plus there was plenty of beer around at the time :beer2::beer2::D

He was a college tutor and the class done it as a project, think he kept all the 300 interior as he just had a body to fit, will see if i can get a pic
