Haha yes! - I did clean it before I fitted it back on today :) I do usually clean it after every off-roading session, except last time 'cause I was fed up with it!

Evidence ;)

SO I now have to worry about the bottle of K seal that I droped in mine to stop the P gasket leakin coss I couldn't be arsed to strip it down ?
I think NOT ! I pull a large caravan with it UP hill & down DALE & have never had a problem with over heating + it never looses any water !
And I droped it in 3 years ago when the head gasket blew at the back of No4 pot !

Cool, maybe you'd need to be unlucky for it to cause a problem but I wouldn't take the chance.

Hope you manage to get the old girl back on the road soon Foz.
Am I right in thinking the 1.4 ratio transfer box is from a defender? Better for disco's with big wheels

what tyres and wheels are they mate ?

looking smart that

They are 33x12.50x15 GT Radial Adventuro Mud Terrain tyres - 10 inch wide modular steel wheels.

Hope you manage to get the old girl back on the road soon Foz.

Yeah me too, I did lose love for it for a while.

Yes exactly, the 1.4 ratio transfer box will correct the gearing for 33 inch tyres :) This particular box also has an uprated cross pin too.

The ratio calculator is here if you're interested - http://www.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk/calc/ratio_calc.html

That's handy then, I've always had disco transfer boxes even when running 33x12.5 and 35x10.5 tyres.
Might look into getting a defender transfer box and seeing if I notice the difference.

Know what you mean about love loss, got rid of my disco and got a commercial version that I've always wanted.
But can't really get excited about it yet, hopefully I can get out off-roading soon and that'll spark my interest.

When I get mine fitted I'll be sure to let you know - I can't imagine 35 inch tyres on the standard gearing :| that must have been horrible pulling away on hills (high range).

I'm hoping the improved gearing will help a bit with the strain on the engine, as I think that may be the cause of some of my heating problems. It doesn't get hot, the temp gauge stays about the middle (it could be broken of course!), just blows up header tanks haha.

Yeah definitely - I would suggest I pop up to Essex and we go out in the Discos, but I don't trust mine to make it that far! haha!

I can't say it was ever an issue for me but the pump had been wound up a bit.
Maybe I was just used to it lol.
Be interested to hear about how it drives.

Could well help to keep the temperatures down, you getting a custom metal header tank or are there off the shelf items for disco's?

Lol look up Voilets Lane on YouTube, it's a Ford about an hour west of me in Colchester. That'll tempt you down ;)

Yeah that's true - I really noticied it when pulling away with a caravan on the back.

I'm gonna stick with the plastic ones for now, as they are cheap at about a tenner each. Eventually I will buy a metal tank but they are approx. £90.

Haha, I'll take a look!

Alright, so I think I know why the Disco keeps overheating... You're gonna laugh at this.

I think I had the wrong temperature sensor! I had a black one in, and I think I need a green one. Swapped out to a green one this evening and it gets up to temperature much quicker now - as I would expect. So hopefully it was the black sensor under reading the temp! Doh!

Following my electric fan mountings causing wear on my rad, I decided to go for a "proper" mounting alternative.

I got these mounting brackets from bolt on bits - they usually sell them as part of a kit, but I wanted them separately - I just messaged them on Facebook, very helpful.

I haven't mounted them properly, but you get the idea. They slot in the bottom of the rad (there are 2 slots), and then you put a bolt or similar to hold the top in place (Where I have cable ties).

My belt tensioner is also gone, it's now on/off rather than working as a tensioner. So a replacement that I will need to fit.

Here are a pair of seals for the crank case - the Disco is making a horrible squeal noise, and I'm hoping one of these has perished, and that it isn't something more serious.

Small update.

Swapped out the front crank case seal this morning - the old one was metal. Looked pretty well used.

Fitted the belt tensioner

And also a new clutch slave cylinder - as mine the old one has been leaking since I bought the Disco.

Hopefully in a couple of weeks I'll have the clutch replaced and the transfer box swapped - figured I may as well have the clutch renewed if I was having the transfer box done too.

Can't wait to get it back on the road again.

I got round to fitting the electric fan on the mount properly.

My aluminium header tank has arrived, as well as the clutch kit.

I'm going to fit the header tank tomorrow, and take the Disco out for a drive for the first time this year!
