I do a lot of motorway driving nowadays but still want to drive my landy.
My transfer box has been noisy for ages and I have a higher ratio box I could use from a disco, but it has no diff lock. Is it something I could transfer from the old one?

You need to check the box you have, some disco transfer box's still had the centre diff but did not have the linkage to work it.

If you do it, it transforms higher speed driving, yes you may have to change down more often. But I've found its worth it.. And you save a lot of fuel unless you really hoof it.

Ditto to that, one of the best things I've done to mine.
I don't go any faster (much) but 60 mph cruseing is so much more relaxed.

Ran a Disco transfer box on my 300TDi 90 from new and it was perfect, only changed to a standard Def Tbox many years later when I converted to auto and I found the Disco Tbox too high.

Update. Disco box fitted, using the diff lock off my old box. much better at speed old 5th gear is much like 4th now.
