Hi all my td5 is playing up its an intermittent fault sometimes it drives perfect and smooth turbo boost building up nice and gradual and pulls nice and hard. Other times I accelerate and it just doesn't want to go then all of a sudden when I get to around 2k revs the turbo snaps in and it rockets going up hills can be a pain as I have to be in a low gear to keep it in boost or I will just come to a stop.
It has
Egr delete
All new samco hoses
Straight through exhaust
Alive remap
New fuel pump and filter
When unplugging the maf no different
Iv blown the map out with an airline
New injector harness and rocker gasket
New actuator solonoid
Wastegate feels like it sticks a little bit but closed so boost always there above 2k.
No management light on
Sometimes I can set off and it be fine then after driving for half hour it just changes its mind and acts up. Starting to annoy me now hope someone can help. Many thanks for reading.

Hi, I can't comment on the TD5, I just got mine. But I did have this problem on a VW and it was the turbo itself sticking. Turbo was changed and all was good again.

Try freeing up the waste gate arm using mole grips and some lube. It should be stiff but move freely
Hi mate thanks for your reply i have done that i took the actuator off too and put it on the airline just to make sure that's working well too. The wastegate is really free but right at closed position if you put pressure on it a certain direction you can feel it trying to stick. If it sticks closed though it should boost fine only if it sticks open you loose the boost pressure. I'm a bit baffled by it all now. I'm sort of happy to get a new turbo and try it but I just would like to know if any other options first. Would be annoying if it didn't sort it then be a few hundred quid out of pocket. :(

Might be worth checking the wastegate modulator hoses (x3) for splits.

That's a very good point I may just replace them anyway thanks for the advice. I done loads of miles in it today and it never missed a beat. I did have a bit of a tinker with a few bits yesterday. Fingers crossed.

I used a penetrating oil Tony and over the course of the day just periodically work it.. It has been fine ever since,
The joys of this forum is that the guys are helpful and rather than scratching heads they are happy to point directions, the forum has come to the rescue a few times for me and I'm thankful to it.

Great stuff thanks. Yeah I must say I'm quite new to this forum and I am really impressed with the help. Thanks everyone :)

Right lads a bit of an update on my problem which I think is solved. I have adjusted the pre load on the actuator rod an extra half of a turn so that the wastegate closes every time as before would sometimes stick just before closing fully causing boost to leak straight into the exhaust. I noticed this when I had a pair of mole grips on the wastegate lever I was opening it and just letting go. Sometimes it would close all the way and sometimes you had to push it the rest of the way. It's been almost a week now without fault so fingers crossed its sorted. Thanks for all the comments :)

An extra update for anyone with the same problem. My car faulted again today!!! I worked the wastegate rod and made no difference so I pulled up again and removed the map sensor and sprayed brake cleaner into it to give it a good clean after that it ran perfect so must have been the map sensor all along. The last time I updated I said I adjusted the pre load on the turbo, at the same time I cleaned the map sensor so couldn't be 100% what fixed my problem. Turns out must have been the sensor as it was the same symptoms. Anyone with the same problem remove the map sensor and give it a good blast out with brake cleaner 1st job.

Right final update on my car for anyone with the same fault. Fitted a new map sensor and it's been sweet ever since I kept cleaning the old sensor but the fault would come back after a couple of days. New sensor working perfect :)
