just got our Sreg Safari 300tdi on the road seems to be running well except for the gearchange from 2nd to 3rd, im sure there should be a spring there to assist the change like the one in my transit, is this an easy fix ?
 
When you select neautral does the gear stick sit in the middle between 3rd and 4th? There are 2 springs and a bias plate that centralise the gearstick if a spring or the plate is faulty it will cause the gearstick not to sit in the middle and poss cause difficult gearchange.
 
more likely to be a cracked bias plate than broken bias springs. bias plate has slightly oval holes, test drive the gear change before riveting it all back together as a little adjustment may make all the difference.
 
1st and second seem ok its goin to 3rd thats a bit hit and miss and changing back from 5th to 4th ot 3rd to 2nd so maybe one spring is broken, what does the bias plate do ?

when you push lever right across to the left stick is aligned with 1st and second,when pushed to the right reverse and 5th, as there is no gate ,bias springs ensure 3rd 4th alignment
 
rip out your centre console, get to the top of the gearbox where your main lever goes in. change bias plate for a new one. adjust... easy £7 fix!
 
Ok well decided to have a go at the bias plate and springs today, and it was the bias plate that had snapped but i fitted new springs as i had them. its a bit fiddly getting the springs in place as you cant get it over the gear lever after its around the bolt, so you have to bend the short bit and insert the bolt while holding the tension of the spring lol but really anybody can do this job with a basic tool kit. so if your thinking of doing yours just go for it

or use mole grips to bend long part of spring around lever:)

I tried that first but the long part of the spring is too long to do it that way so i just used a pair of pliers and twisted the spring at the base till it lined up with the bolt hole it wasnt to hard to do just a bit fiddly.
Drove it yesterday and what a differnce it makes lol
