Help! Two days ago the front wipers on my 97 2.5tdi disco refused to turn off, despite the being switched to off, they merrily kept wiping at the intermittent pace. I took it to a mechanic who said it was probably the switch, but didn't have one around to test it. So I took it to an auto electrician who said it was probably the motor, and if I got hold of one he'd be happy to change it for me. Right, a little confused I decided to buy a wiper motor and take it from there. Soooo, got on flea bay, found a motor for £15, went to buy it, and noticed it was mentioned something about black or white plugs. I rang the guy, he said he could provide me with either if I let him know which one I wanted, So, following logic I asked him how would I know which one I wanted. He said take the motor off and have a look. OK, no prob. Then I remembered I'm just a girl who normally rides motorcycles, (no wipers!), and didn't actually know where the wiper motor is or what it looked like. I don't want to get the motor off until I have a replacement and a man with a big spanner, as it's raining, and I have to do the school run! I rang a landy dealer and they were worse than effin useless. What should I do? Which motor do I need?

thank-you! Some of my more mechanically minded friends reached the same conclusion... right now I have to find a new switch...

Untill then take this switch out and unplug it....if the wipers will still work after that then it's a wiring or blocked relay issue

the wiper motor has its own permanent live to enable it to park ,it would seem it doesnt know where park is problem in wiper motot gearbox

agree with james.
the intermittent / self park switch is buggered. they dont know where to stop.
unfortunately its fitted in the wiper gearbox, attached to the motor, so its a motor off job.

If it's owt like a Defender 200tdi, it might look like this...

I reckon it is a switch problem, not a motor problem because after jiggling with the switch I found a little place in between "off" and "intermittent" where the wipers did actually stop, and they parked just fine. So I have bought a switch. Looks simple enough to fit (ha ha famous last words!). Please don't tell me I have to take the steering wheel and airbag off to fit it...
