yes it's possible if yer mate has the know how and aptitude.
a mate of mine bought 1 last year that had been done up for winch challenge.

I'll sell you a disco 1 chassis...

Got one in really good condition - with ID if required (fully legit - can tell you where most of the parts are from it) for a very good price... PM me if your interested :)

This isn't as daft a post as some people are saying. In the 60's & 70's. when land rover were developing the range rover, they experimented with various body types on the new chassis. One of the best known prototypes was the 100" land rover, but they also did a couple of prototypes for the army using a modified lightweight body on the range rover chassis, and a 110" lightweight provisionally called the 110" bonneted control. Unfortunately neither of these models ever made it into production

next silly question.....

why not use a defender 90 chassis and running gear with the lightweight body panels?
would give the benefits of coil suspension whilst looking like a lightweight
im guessing the 2 inch differece would appear in the position of the rear wheels in the rear arches... simple trim job..... or am i missing something ?.

like why wreck a good 90

I am confused.... The OP asked the following......

Hi, my mate has a lightweight with wrotten chassis. Just curious if anyone has done or seen a lightweight body fitted to disco chassis and whats involved?:D

He has not, to my knowledge, explained whether he specifically wants to fit to a Disco chassis, was just unaware that they were different sizes or that he could get a replacement chassis designed for a lightweight.

Unless and until he can be more specific, it is difficult to help him further.

sorry, i have a v8 disco, looking at putting a tdi lump in probs. Got the complete disco chassis in mint condition. Got a lightweight in wrotting away at the end of the garden. It was just a thought really

well yer wrong there cuz the 90 is actually 93" wheel base ;)

got to cut 5 inches out the back of the wheel arches then....

Am I missing something here, apart form I would love a light weight, I love the look of them , but never been in the position to have one.

My question is, is a Bobtail not shortened, I take it its the last but if the rear part of the Chassis that is cut off, in this case its a bit more complicated then that?

how much of the vehicle have you got with id ,that wouldnt be ringing a vehicle like that bloke on ebay

No. it wouldn't. As i stated, i can tell you exactly where all the main comonents are...

engine is in my series,
gearbox sold on eBay
Transfer box in firends disco
Front axle in storage in my shed, maybe going on the series
Rusty body scrapped
Wheels for sale still
Rear axle sold on eBay

etc.

The DVLA won't let me return the V5 as scrapped as it was self scrapped and told me to either SORN it for life or if there are any parts left scrap / sell the V5 with those parts.

Only doing what i'm told.
