Went to undo my passenger window this morning, heard a clunk, then the window started falling down. Managed to push it back up into place, hand either side of the glass, but it falls as I'm driving, and even shutting the door it falls open an inch. When you press the switch you can hear the motor trying to move, so imagine it's not the motor..

Saw on a search on here that there's a bit that holds the window in place that commonly rots through? Regulator or a sill or..?

Any ideas?

It's too cold for this

was window frozen ,is easy to pull glass out of mechanism, but you still need to remove grab handle ,latch trim and carefully prising door card off ,clipsd have a habit of saying in door and not with card ,you will need to lower window to check ,regulator

Window wasn't frozen, but it was before this getting to about 3 inches open and starting to jump/judder, and wouldn't go down, then this morning it just clunked and slid down.

Matthew, nope not me..

Got it booked in to a mates garage later, just thought I'd try to give him an idea what it might be so he doesn't have to fk about too much!

If it's a window regulator, Euro Car Parts (my local parts place) have one listed at £111! Thinking to buy one off ebay now for £28~ delivered.. just wanna know if it's gonna be that part before I buy.

Oh right! Well in that case I best not buy the part :D My mate's a roll cage builder by trade so hopefully that'll be well within his grasps, lol

The glass is fitted into a track by a rubber piece than is wedged into a u shaped length. Often with cold weather the rubber gets stiff and glass comes out. If the glass quite freely moves it has come out. You need to get to the internals and check it out.
The edge of the glass is fragile and a tap with any metal part is likely to shatter it. Be careful! If it has come out easiest way to refit is a little washing up liquid in the rubber. Rest glass on rubber and slowly wind up. Will force it in. Washing up liquid will disapate over time and grip restored. Where are you?

I would bet judging by the knocking noise he experienced that the crescent rack has come off and the glass/reg interface is perfectly sound... Once this happens the glass also moves very freely!

My drivers window however is still held to the reg with gaffer tape pending getting hold of a new grip assembly - the tab on the front has parted company due to tin worm!

Bit outside of my abilities there then I reckon! I'm in Surrey, cold, cold Surrey :D

I wouldn't say FREELY, but it can be lifted and dropped with a bit of a push. Like you need grip both sides of the glass to move it - sadly as was trying to lift from the inside in traffic!

So pretty much it's all a bit of guess work until the door's opened up, right?

It is - but it is a fairly easy job..........
although, if its anything like mine - there are a couple of varients on the window mechanism. When I changed mine, I had to change the window glass, the actuating mechanism, the sliders and the motor, coz they were all different.

I suggest you take the inner panel off and try and take a couple of pics, although most of it is hidden inside the door. tape the window up into position (a door wedge, judiciously placed on the inside between the glass and the door frame will stop the glass falling) then, when yu have the cover off, yu can try the door mech and see where the problem lies.

Any probs, give me a shout - i have a door here in bits.

Ok nice one, I'll pop out and do that on my lunch break.

I just know that while the landy's away from me in the garage it'll snow so want it sorted quick as :D

Had a look at it, realised there's no way I am taking the door panel off in my lunch :D Off to the garage it is!
