Hello all,

I'm now at the stage with my disco 3 (54 reg) where I feel fitting EGR blanking is going to be the best option. I have a couple of questions if anyone else on here has experience?

1. Will it still pass MOT emissions test with blank fitted?
2. How easy is it to fit the blank? - Would I need to remove the EGR valve? - asking because I got as far as removing the stainless steel braided pipe from the EGR this week but removal of the valve itself looked like a mission!

Thanks in advance,

Literally a few minutes work, look down either side where the egr flex pipe meets the egr valve, see the flange held on with two bolts? remove both bolts, lift the flange up and slide the blanks in, refit bolts and tighten job done, might need slightly longer bolts, the blanks wont be noticed for mot, no warnings will come on.

It is also recomended that you remove the egr throttle flap in the plastic y piece between both banks, sounds complicated but again no big deal.

You can get complete kits but they do away with the egr pipework and if noticed should be an mot fail.

Okay great, thank you!! :)

Literally read only this morning that some people dont remove the intake flap, what they do is unplug it, open the flap and drive a self tapper into the mechanism to stop it closing again, not my idea a of a solution, but if it works?

Thanks Lynall, soooo I blanked off the EGR today by using a blanking plate inbetween the pipe and EGR. She drives sooooo much better. However - One small problem. I accidentally ended up dropping one of the bolts somewhere into the engine bay - actually dropped it a couple of times but it fell down to the ground and so I was able to retrieve it. Not such luck the last time I dropped it. Thankfully the pipe and EGR plate has one bolt holding it on at least - and the car drives ok, but I'd obviously like to put the second bolt in. Now as it has disappeared seemingly forever and I can't seem to find any spare bolts on ebay, I don't suppose you would happen to know where they could be purchased from would you?

thanks :)

I'll bet that the bolt is hiding in the engine mount ...

Possibly, wherever it's gone it's gone for good. I even lost a socket extension bar down the hole at the side of the engine bay, it disappeared amongst the leaves that seem to be stuck down there and so i'm guessing it's somewhere on top of the wheel arch covering. Yep - not very good at this am I? :)

Wheelarch covers should be removed regular like ... not only to retrieve expensive tools, but to remove mud, silt and stones ...

Good it is fixed, but I would not be to keen on driving it with one of the bolts missing, if the other fails you will have hot exhaust gases blowing around the engine bay.
It is an M6 bolt approx 20mm long, I would be inclined to buy one slightly longer and cut it down to suit, ie 25 or 30mm, 25mm would be perfect as would account for the thickness of the blanking plate.

I note us use the words (the egr and plate) as in singular ie only one, and dont want to sound like a cock but there are two egr valves!

Here you go pack of 50 I know but only 5.40 and one bolt from Land rover will ocst more than that! https://www.screwfix.com/p/easyfix-...2-stainless-steel-m6-x-25mm-50-pack/8655t#_=p

Trust me mechs losing tools happens all the time.

That's great thank you, and thanks for pointing out about the second egr valve, always good to check. Well, that one is possibly a lost cause - but I did manage to blank that off yesterday too - there's one 'good' bolt in but the other bolt, whilst also in just spins around trying to tighten it and so I suspect I over tightened and the bolt snapped. :/

It is probably slightly to short so maybe have pulled out the first one or two threads, perfectly recoverable with patience, dont force it any more get the longer ones and carefully try them.
