disco 1 rear floor-rottern

i've been looking at gasless MIGs and for thoes on a budget they look quite good :) screwfix.co.uk look pretty good gasless won't have the stronges/best looking welds but if you want welds that look good go out and buy a proper MIG or a TIG
 
I need to replace my boot also but i really do not know a thing about welding and owning a welder probably would also be useful, but i dont have one.
I am trying to do my Disco 200tdi up but dont want to have to rob a bank (wouldnt go down well with the kids this), is there anyone out there in the west midlands area who know what they are doing willing to spend some time with me to help me do the worst bits of welding and also teach me abit, i am willing to travel to you if this would be easier, I don't wanna sound like i'm begging but if i have to ok; pleeeeeeeeaaaaaassssse.

Is it a normal sort of price to be quoted for someone to do it? They said it'd take about 2 days as the whole interior would have to come out.

I have just had my boot floor replaced, and I stripped out the back ready - seats were all left in tho, and cost me £275.00 all in :D

Was from a Land Rover Specialist too - they have done a really good job.
 
So all you took out was...? Plastic bits, carpet, etc? This chap said that all the seats would have to come out, head lining, anything that could be damaged by flying sparks - including fuel tank (diesel, may I add)... Sounded a bit extreme. :confused: xxx

:eek: What ! for just the floor panel ? He,s takin the ****. All you need is rear seat belt mounts removing. Panel costs about £50.Take it somewhere else if you can,t do it yourself.

Triied a gasless mig when doing mine . it was a waste of time, did a better job with an arc welder.
 
Like Vivnap says a good welder with all the right tools would do a straight swap in a day. Sometimes the rot is more extensive around the perimeter , obviously that would take longer. Every job is different.

Avoid gasless migs as the heat will burn through on thin body panels (18g. and under). A dual purpose is better and gives you options when it is windy. The 150 amp units will weld chassis members. Using pub type CO2 as a shielding gas is a cheap alternative to Argon mixes which are expensive on hire.
