Discharging Battery Mystery

Ok then ...with a fully recharged battery take a multimeter and measure the voltage while somebody is turning the ignition to see how bad it drops...it's an eldritch thing coz it would have blown a fuse if it had been a drain somewhere (as bad drain as to discharge a good battery). Besides never compare how a petrol engine starts and a diesel one. I might get annoying on this but if u didnt recharge the drained battery at least 10 hours with a charger the fact that u've let it a few minutes on the rover's alternator it's not enough. If the voltage will drop hard while cranking and it'll rise back with the clunk then it's a connection/feed issue....when a starter motor is gone usually it will not engage at all or it'll blow the fuse/link.

Glow plugs? i guess they are like spark plugs for petrol cars? will check tonight.

Yes the car cranks the engine over VRRRRRRRR but no VROEM at the endof it. only a few times through, not more than 7 seconds, never more than twice, the battery will be off then

right,it is either a loose lead or a dodgy starter motor.like i have said check the leads for tightness and cleanliness before you take it to the garage.;)

You guys are awesome.

I will pick up a new battery on way home, it seems to be the biggest culprit, then will see what happenes when i get home, start looking at leads, earthing cables, glow plugs and anything else. then i will assume starter problem if all this fails

both my batteries could be a low voltage because the willard one from the freelander died first, though i recharged it overnight on thursday i will try this again and see now that the diesel pumps are replaced and fuel is going to engine.

;)

ffs,it aint your battery,do the things that have been suggested before you go buying another battery.it takes more than a few minutes on the car to charge a battery.it used to be that it would take 30 miles of normal driving to charge a battery up from flat, def not just a few mins on the car.
