Need I say more?

I went for a Detroit LSD in the rear only in my 110 van. as I need the grip for towing on soft ground/gravel.
Vehicle wise I'd go go for a defender 110 csw, and then add as much insulation as possible to keep the family happy, noise and heat wise.

advantages / disadvantages of a fender over a disco?
Depends on usage. If you want to drive off road a lot, work it in the country, heavy offroading, trials etc. 90 or Defender 90.
If you want to drive long distance, towing, occasional laning, disco may suit.
Disco is cheaper but doesn't hold value as well. But remember that value gain/loss is a function of how well you look after the vehicle!

I'll remember the above the next time I cruise by a fender stuck coz it has no TC. :D
Trust me, an axle lockered Ninety with centre locked as well will beat traction control every time! :D

my bro in his 110 got stuck in some ruts, i sailed through them in my freelander :s
May not be to do with cars. Maybe you are a better driver! ;):)

Never said it wouldn't but the point made by Fmog is that a D2 needs a lot of money spending on it to make it competent offroad and that's just not true.

I agree, they are fine for light off road use. I don't use mine much off road, but been around the fields a few times. It is ok.my main concern would be contact with the bumpers, the plastic has gone pretty fragile on mine!:(

Buy a Defender 110 TD5 XS

Nine seats (or take out the four side facing rear seats for a five seater with loads of luggage space)

Also you get Traction Control which will improve off road capability. Probably not as good as locking diffs, but pretty effective.

Pay £10-15,000 for a good one, keep for five years, and get all your money back. Not that you'll want to sell it!

I've had at least ten people offer to buy my 110.
And last week a guy knocked on the door and asked if the 90 was for sale.

That sort of thing worries me. Makes me think someone's about to steal it. I have kept all the bits of paper that have been left under my windscreen wiper with people's mobile phone numbers on, just in case they're useful starting points in event of a theft.

I wouldn't take kindly to that either. In fact I would tell them to get off my land, and never come back! :D

Fortunately, we are rarely troubled with such, as we live over a mile from the main road, and few can find it! :)

Thanks everyone :)

as much as I want a defender, it looks like i'm going for the D2 option purely for family comfort on long travels. (I will however be on the look out for a cheap 90 to be my next toy)
