hi i have a landrover 90 [1987] with a LT77 gearbox i fitted a new reversing light switch [all working good]
have tried twice to fit a diff lock switch and when i put it into diff lock
its not making contact with the switch ??
i can only see 2 different switches for sale and have bought 2 for the LT77 gear box .there both the same
Any ideas why its not making contact .i can see it moving in the gearbox but the switch just seems a tad to short even when screwed right in ??

any advice would be welcome

it's very basic, you screw it in far enough so the when the metal slides it pushes the plunger up the slope.

can you compare the orig switch to the new one.. are they the same length?

edit:

just noticed you mentioned lt77 diff switch. the difflock switch is on the lt230 transferbox. PRC2911

early lt77s had a longer reverse switch which you could stick in the diff switch iirc. i wonder if you've bought a later shorter one? PRC8204

quick look shows early ones with 28mm thread, later 14mm thread.

yes same length and same switch as i used for the reversing switch

if it deffo works and you have power, etc then i'd try backing it out a bit and moving it again into diff lock, just incase it's in too far.

else you could take the plate off, as in that video and have a look.

or maybe a crush washer is stopping it going in too far?

(you can check the switch by hooking it up and manually pushing the end up until your diff light works)

Put car in difflock then connect wire to switch and then screw in till it outs light on, took me a while doing this bit it's now working
