Everyone knows my green 2001 3 door.

I have picked up a 1998 silver 3 door L Series. Do I swap the engine and all looms computers and plumbing over coz it's all different or swap all my trick bits to the silver one? I can't decide! Or I could sell the green one and start again.
Suggestions please [emoji15]

Personally, I'd swap the wheels+nudge bar (the rubber ones look a bit... naff, IMO)

After that, get yourself a 2kOhm variable resistor, some SDi injectors, and a turbo from a Rover 25/45/MGZR/MGZS (swap the turbine housings over, so it'll fit the hippo)

Will have you floating up around the 140-150Bhp mark, for minimal effort :)

If I do it to the silver one, it'll get the wheels tyres suspension lift facelift bucket seats probably big brakes etc off the green one. Then I'll be picking your brains cos I do want a decent power increase.

Personally, I'd like to see you transplant the L Series into the green one. I'm an L Series fan but I much prefer the facelift looks and interior. So to see someone's efforts in putting an L Series into a Freelander of different spec would be interesting. There are issues to the mechanical side of things such as mating the engine, box & exhaust up to the mounts, cooling, fuel etc. The biggest obstacles though would presumably be the electrical side of things in generic networking and specific signals, eg CCU/ECU hookup any other things that talk to the ECU (eg ABS?), diagnostics etc. It would take a good, thorough trawl over the circuit diagrams of both cars for physical connections to the ECU and then an understanding of signals to determine if it can be done. For example the ECU & CCUs are coded together - so can they be swapped and recoded (with something like a Hawkeye) and then will the talk the same protocols anyway? Would you need to use the L Series CCU and lose some of the later functionality, would the L Series ABS control unit be needed, in which case you'll have to use the WABCO pumps as well. In the end, there may not be siffcient gain - so bolting the bits off the other car onto the L Series may be the only viable route.

I have been thinking along these lines of late. I wouldn't entertain a Freelander without an L Series engine, but I do prefer the looks of the facelift and an HSE spec interior is very appealing - although some colour combos are nauseous. To bolt later body parts on requires colour match, which probably isn't going to happen here even if my colour was available post facelift. So your looking to put the L Series into a facelift car.

There was a 2006 HSE with a knackered 2.5 & box sold here this weekend for $1,900 - I had a look at it and the body/interior was perfect. I really fancied it. As a comparison, L Series are still selling here for $5,000 and that HSE can would be between $10K and $15K. As cheap as it was though, it was still a lot of cash to gamble on.

What ever - I think darker colours are probably better for wrapping - your green one looks great!

My green one isn't a facelift. I put every thing on. It's a 2001 so it's networked whereas the L Series never was so that ecu will not talk to the abs dash etc. I had wondered if I could leave the 1.8 ecu in and give it sensor feeds to work everything but that's a major experiment. It'd be easier to swap everything from the L series. Or put all of my facelift bits wheels etc on the L Series. Which would be easier. Painting bumpers isn't an issue they're wrapped in black carbon vinyl at the moment. I plan to lower the gearing as well to compensate for the larger tyres.

whats wrong with the green one - looks great
why not do up the silver one - then you will have 2 !!!

Engines on its last legs and I want it diesel. Already got three vehicles. Inc a disco 2 in silver. I do love my green one. But with a diesel it'd be much better. Swapping everything to the silver one seems to be favourite. It should really end up the same just silver.

to drop the gearing, you've got a LOT of options - for a mild drop, shove in the FD from any other FWD PG1 L series. Quite a bit of work however

Tbh they were cheap ones off eBay. It's the mounts that are the problem. I made mine to measure using the original bases.
