Hi I have a 1996 diesel auto P38 and a few on here have helped me get her up to scratch of here.
She's (yes its definetly a she, moody but real hottie) just started doing the following :-
on the motorway I had to overtake a lorry from 60 to 70,no drop down just steady acceleration touch .Got past the lorry ok pulled back in,eased of the throttle and the dissplay started beeping displaying
gearbox fault and the engine cut out,put her into neutral and coasted to the hard shoulder. Was a bit baffled. switchedd the ign off,put her into park ,turned the key and she fired up all ok no display faults. Did just over 1200 miles in her no problem. Then today pulled out from my drive onto a fast main road and she just cut out no display fault or beeping just cut out. Put it into park, ign off and she started agaain no problem nd she carried on faultlessly aall day (about 200 miles).
Any one have any possible ideas please? Tank is full, serviced about 5000 miles ago, filters changed, oils, etc etc.
ny help gratefully received
Thanks in advance

apologies,my keyboard has a mind of its own,a's go misssing and s's repet sometimes. No its not built by Range Rover inc aand I'm not on the happy fluid,....yet,mores the pity, lol

Could be a number of things intermitant by the sound of it a simple plug in will show any known recorded faults best option :)

I think it could be a computer electrical issue, but don't hold me on that one, have you got diagnostic equipment? You might find out what's wrong if it had logged the fault onto the main computer. Or you might need a new ECU. But that's me, just guessing.

Gearbox fault can be low voltage as underlying reason for claimed gearbox fault, therefore I would check burnt fuse box as known problem area

Nanocom, Faultmate, and a couple of others can do it.

thanks its for future reference in case i have to do the job myself I am having a similar problem with mine and no faults are showing up on diagnostics I have done injectors , gearbox fluid and filter change , and just waiting for my in-tank pump to arrive so slowly eliminating possible faults as i go along was going to do THROTTLE POTENTIOMETER and then ecu that should about do it if not a box of swann vestas with sort it once and for all :D

You could have bought some diag with all the cash you are spending guessing.
