If you tune it nicely you maybe able to get it to play a tune representing "Open you bastard" with each press.

Of course he can, but another option if the switch had failed would be useful would it not?In that case if he tests it and it is ok. £2.00 or so buys him enough piano wire to make a couple of springs. When the first one rusts away in fifteen years or so he can make another.
B-dunk in the chord of B7, thats a nice sounding chord..

Ordinary Piano wire from a model aircraft shop does the job, a spray of conformal coating will stop it rusting.Stainless piano wire?

I agree, it was in reply to the comment about the switch not being available anymore, however, on reading back, I think he meant the CPC switch wasn't available anymoreIt is ridiculous money for what they are. Land rover take the piss.

Farnell still do the switch part number :- 76-9116/439088Just a PS, the solenoid is fine, the button is working right now, but this isnt the first time I had to go through this, it keeps getting stuck in the winter, so a change is best
After having an issue with my release button sticking in last year due to ice and the tailgate not shutting, I went out today to load some stuff but resisted the temptation to push it given the conditions as I didn't then want to be then stood outside in -12 trying to free it and leave what I was going to move for another day. Great excuse to have a beer. The button return spring rusts away or it could be ice as water gets in. I have a mod with sealed button at a fraction of the price of a genuine replacement, it looks very like the real thing.
Another example of Land rovers competitive pricing policy. ALR6310 £88.51 each.
