A few of us from down here in sunny Herts are coming to have a tra wl around the lanes Derbyshire has to offer. I am looking for info regarding:

Closed lanes

Interesting routes (though we don't want to drive anywhere that will result in further damage to lanes)

Good Campsites who are willing to put with a shed load of landys for a weekend.

If any of you Derbyshire lot have pointers, please let us know.

i can pm ya some locations of some good lanes/routes later when i get home if ya want?
 
I am near to Derbyshire and would love to do some green laning :) If you go anywhere that would be suitable for a beginner how would you feel about a stranger tagging along?
 
agnes meadow near kniveton has a tro on it at moment and i think tenter hill does too.lane near bonsal quarry is shut as there were too many folk arsing around in there and the cops are prosecuting with help from the farmer who lives at end of lane. monsal head is a cracking lane as is pike hall. if you want a arse twitching moment then i would recommend sillydale. bamford clough is well worth a look at as is houndkirk moor but stick to the lane there as there's a big crack down on off piste drivers at mo and the police are taking names and kicking ass and so they should.
 
Thanks for the info guys Crooked a PM wouold be really useful ta! Obviously we don't know the local names for these ROW but I am sure they will show on the OS map.

POB, we don't have any qualms about folks who want to hitch up with us but we are doing this is groups of five maximum. If you wanted to come along, you'd be best looking at the Herts Green Laning thread and chatting to one of the folks about joining in with their group. However, on a personal note I would say that you would be better advised to go out with some laners who are local to you, and will know the routes that are appropriate to you and your vehicle. Remember, we southerners know nothing of the Derby lanes and so we are driving blind almost.

Having said that... the more the merrier!

Is of a route I took a few of us recently. It's deliberately not too large so awkward to work out properly, but will give you an idea and if you're interested I can send you a mmo file (Memory Map) of the route, or a larger pic, whatever you need. It's about 44 miles long and took us roughly 5 1/2 hours ... a lot of it is definitely low-box, low-gears stuff ... ;)

It's not exhaustive, there are loads more lanes around about, but it does have labels to show where we stayed, one major route (Stanage) that is highly recommended if you want a challenge, though we got a bog-standard Disco ES down using good guidance and is meant as a general overview rather than being properly useful, IYSWIM !!

If you want more detail pm me and I'll send more info.
 
PM me some email addresses and I'll send a mmo of the route and maps for use in Memory Map or whatever ... If you haven't got MM I can also take a screen shot in greater detail and send that so you can print it out. The Landyzone pm system doesn't allow file attachments.

Forgot to mention ...

If you follow the route, at SK205732 ish you should turn right onto quarry roads .. they are now closed by order for new quarrying etc, so you have to detour round .. basically carry on the road though it's different to OS map due to quarrying at that point, and work back on yourself in a large right turning loop to rejoin the route at SK239748 ish. It's unfortunate 'cos there are a couple of good lanes through the area, but quarrying made it what it is and is king in the area ... ;)

Getting sorted on other lanes for you and I'll pm you further Memory Map details when I get chance.

Sorry about this. I had about 30 odd lanes and small looped routes for the Peaks in my PDA in Memory Map format, but someohow I've screwed it up and deleted them all! Dunno how as I had them on my desktop and PDA, so hoped if I lost one lot I'd still have the other, but no, they went from both.

PS, if you follow that route I already sent anti clockwise it takes you down the lanes the 'correct' way to comply with the voluntary restrictions .. Monsall and Stanage especially.

Start point for us was Cottage Farm campsite in Blackwell at the bottom left corner, which also isn't too far from the campsite you've already arranged .. ;)

Doubt I can make it to join you, but if stuff changes I'll try to, if only for an evening or so.
