Same as me really... I wittled out the airbox a bit, since I have the snorkel fitted no real need for that impeller inside. Allows the engine to breath a tad better and the turbo spools up faster. Easy to do in 30 mins.

Could fit a boost gauge so you can tinker with boost pressure, got mine set to 17psi currently. Theres a nice EGR blank pipe that has a boost gauge fitment allows for a clean install.

Ah fair, I'll have a look at fitting a boost gauge.

Wish I'd just fitted that blanking kit straight away and that airbox mod doesn't look too difficult, thanks for the help.
I'm doing a 200 mile round trip tommorow, hopefully I'll be able to work out if it cruises better and does a better mpg, and just see how it performs overall.

Same.... Did manage to sell my old blanking kit though! So wasnt all bad and no drilling required!

Indeed but when you rip out the impeller it leaves a few holes in the box which youve got to seal up. I used tiger seal and a drinks 2L bottle

Ah fair play, at least I bought a cheap blanking kit, and thanks for the tips.

The ECU just died, no warning, no symptoms of impending doom, just switched itself of whilst driving along. Opened up the ECU expecting to see something burnt, nothing, just dead. As ever Mike did the business.

Mike said is quite common, for them to just die without any warning. Glad it went wrong here and not in Morocco, that would have been a right drama.

No, just can go at any time apparently, not much you can do about it, some don't, I'm going to buy a spare and Mike is going to code it to my truck in case it ever happens again.
Water ingress is still the main killer, but mine still looked new and was a bit dusty but still died. Plenty of Disco ECUs around, just need to reprogrammed for a Defender, no big deal really.
I had no coil or engine management lights, engine would turn over, power was going into the ECU but no signals were received by any sensor, so the earths were checked, all fine, nanocom could not get a signal, so it was declared dead.

There is a similar problem where the fuel pump relay plays up, and gives the similar issues with no coil or management light, BUT, the temperature gage goes into the red whilst cranking the engine over, that is simply the relay under the seat with a bad connection or is defective, but my temperature gage remained in the cold section whilst cranking which is often but not always an indicator, as it could be the crank position sensor as that will cut the fuel pump also, but that was checked, and indeed the ECU had croaked on me without any warning.

Thats a worry. I was speaking with an ex LR mechanic a while back who told me that the TD5 ECUs are 100% water resistant as he left one in a bucket of water for a week. Plugged in and worked. The issue arises from the wires leading in which causes it to short circuit. So filling the points where the cables go into the block either with stuffing glands or silicone should keep the ECU safe from harm.

Yeah, with my 1.4 transfer box the 110 would get to 100 and just keep wanting to pull, screeeeeeeaming though, only did it once in fear the head would eject itself from the block, 1,2 box is way better suited to it now.

I suppose Mike might be confused, Mr Nasty is not my real name, lol

Yeah mine was still pulling but was screaming, and haha don't think he though that was your name.

I just used up a whole fuel tank 300 miles later, I worked it out that I got 25mpg since the remap I ussualy get 29mpg lol, probally due toy foot being constantly on the floor, on a positive note my job interview went well and the new job pays £9 an hour with more easy work hours compared to the £5.15 I was on before!

26 mpg is what it was doing before the 1.2 was fitted, now its around 29-31 mpg. No idea what it did before the remap, as it was one of the first jobs I did just after buying it.

A tank now gives me 450 miles range, easy
