Defender Windscreen Replacement

Hi All,

My windscreen rubber is very perished, and the glass itself is typical Defender... riddled with chips!

I'm debating calling my insurance for a windscreen claim and pay the excess of £100.

Has anyone had experience of this... do the likes of autoglass do a decent job?

Option B is my local landy specialist.

cost me £60 local glazier to do it for me. + materials that I bought myself.

Some will say it's a DIY job, I would however get the pros with the proper toools and experience to do it.

The glazier who did mine, struggled with the new seal as they are effin tight and it took a while for him to do it, bit by bit edging it home.

Hmm yeah I wasn't ever going to attempt myself for those reasons, I might spend a few days looking into glaziers near me.

How much did the bits cost if you don't mind me asking ? And a list of what parts used maybe ? (Feel free to DM)

I done mine & I used a genuine seal...…..What a nightmare getting the last part in I ended up beating
it in with a rubber mallet, everyone here was putting bets on to see how long it would take
me to break the glass lol
It went in eventually & I never smashed the glass

ive heard the aftermarket seals are easier to put in though.

Cab glass or your local agri/plant glazing service will do it, I had them make me a new screen up for the series after the triple XXX toughened jobby shattered and almost blinded me on the A140 one Sunday.

Just order a new seal or failing that just get the insurance to do it and spec a new seal when AutoGlass ring you.

Paid £30 for local guy to fit my screen, wasn't worth the hassle of trying to do it myself. Broken a screen before and decided never again.

I used a mobile manchester lad , £100 there about's fitted new rubber + screen . im in macclesfield so not much in it distance wise . can dig his number out if interested

I wanted a heated screen for mine, so I got one from paddocks with an aftermarket seal.
I decided to take a gamble and fit it myself, using the cord method.
It was very easy.
I recommend having somebody pushing the screen on the right places on the outside, while you remove the cord on the inside.
Also remove the top of the dash.
I have heard they are more difficult to fit using the genuine Landrover seal.
