Defender Td5

Hi all,

After four fabulous years, I've decided it's time to part with my faithful Landy. Trouble is, I haven't a clue what it's worth. I've looked on Ebay (as you do) but the spread of values is so vast it's impossible to get any idea of an accurate value for mine. So that's where you come in. YOU get to tell me how much to ask for it. Here's the deets:

Year: 2003
Colour: Blue
Miles: 74k
Fuel: diesel (obviously!)
Wheelbase: 110 (safari type/side windows/9-seater)

Pluses: Never been off-roaded; genuine low mileage; very well looked-after from new

Cons: though structurally sound (bulkhead like new), the four side doors are badly corroded in places if you know where to look (doesn't show from the outside) and could benefit from repair or replacement; ECU software needs a tweak to make it run quieter (not really noticeable except to me, when I changed the ECU recently.)

So... what should I ask for it? Since I'm on the Isle of Man I plan to advertise it locally here first and see how it goes, although the market here is pretty small so I'm not optimistic, so might have to take something (a Series preferably) in part/ex.
Anyway.... Price?

Condition is all, mileage doesn't matter, but what puts me off is the phrase 'never off-roaded' .. So what? It's made to offroad, how else do you get the suspension and drive train to flex and properly work the gearboxes and diffs? First thing I'd have to do is take it down the nearest muddy track and check everything worked. If all I did was green lanes I could say the same, 'cos green lanes aren't 'off-road' either, but some of the green lanes I've done are worse than Pay 'n Plays. Mind, I've also been to Pay and Plays, so couldn't honestly say it ...

Service history? How many owners? Any mods (can increase and decrease value depending)? and always pics!

By your description I would say somewhere in the region of £12k

Have to confess to being somewhat surprised you view 'never off-roaded' as a drawback!! And mileage doesn't matter? Hmmm. Anyway, the thing about off-roading is that a lot of owners who go off-road don't realise that it massively reduces the service interval WRT fluid changes and who wants to buy a vehicle with a load of silt and grit in its drive train and associated components? BTW, it's never done any green laning either.

All the people I know who go offroad service and maintain their vehicles far more than those who rely on the garage and MOT once a year ..

Well, if I ask for 8,500 that wouldn't be too much, then. I'm not greedy; it's the people on this island who are tight!

I would say that is cheap for one of those with that mileage. I would have thought at least 10k

Put it on eBay starting it off on a Sunday night at around 8:15pm for a 7 day auction with a 99p starting price & no reserve.

No, I've still got the Landy. I haven't actually got around to advertising it even locally on the island yet! Perhaps it doesn't want to go! On the very day I posted the first message here on the subject, I started to go down with some unknown viral infection which weakened my immune system (so I've been told by the drs.) enabling me to contract Flu. This in turn led to the dreaded Shingles. In fact at one point I was suffering from Flu, Shingles and Norovirus all at the same time! I'm still not fully recovered from the Shingles, either.
I'd be interested to know how you arrived at your suggestion. Is it a tactic you've used before successfully? Sounds rather risky to me!
