EGR has been bypassed ...

Shifty, run the engine with no air filter at all? I have an oil based air filter from Alive Tuning, i.e. not the paper onces but a "performance" filter, although not sure what kind of increased performance is based on the air filter alone...

I wonder about the snorkel ... excuse me for asking but if its quite wide and everything, why would you expect it to have a performance hit?
Only run with no filter and the air box lid off so that the snorkel has no effect. Once or twice round the block wont do any harm. Its just to prove whether the snorkel is restricting the airflow or not. If it makes no difference then at least you know its not the snorkel choking the engine.

Dont forget to put the filter back in once you're done.

Hi my 2000 td5 defender sounds like it had the same problem as yours. It had loads of power but seemed limited to 60mph. It ended up being the turbo wastegate actator lever that had seized. Sorted it out with plenty of wd40. I read it on a forum somewhere and thought it wouldn't be that but tried it anyway. Hope this helps. Rob

Fair play having your first post offering some advice. Nice to see. :welcome2:

I joined after reading the post as I know how frustrating it was when I couldn't work out what was wrong with mine.

Mine had exactly the same issue...although I couldn´t get my wastegate actuator working properly so replaced the turbo. Works great since....well when I say works great, I mean just the turbo :)
