Thought i would share my experience with some tuning carried out on my 2001 TD5 90.
Items replaced before tuning.
EGR was removed by the previous owner.
Air filter replaced with a Pipercross flat filter.
Center box removed and straight through pipe fitted.
Replaced the useless tiny intercooler cooler with an oversized unit from Allisport. (Not the cheapest but worth the money, comes with a lifetime guarantee, plus Andy there is very helpful).
New silicone pipes fitted to and from the turbo and intercooler.
Spoke to Alive tuning, these guys know there stuff.....
Drove down to A1 BHP in Broadstairs Kent.
They carried a power run on there state of the art 4 wheel drive rolling road.
123 bhp & 205 ft/lb torque.
all not bad compared to a new figures.
they downloaded my map and sent it over to Alive tuning. they did there stuff and sent it back and was uploaded to my Landi. added a little more boost (about 1.4 bar now)
2 more power runs and..
182 bhp & 325ft/lbs torque.
absolutely amazing to drive now. highly recommend this to everyone who has a landi.
its actually featured on there facebook page and website now. .
 
Do you get any smoke? After my 2005 TD5 was remapped by Alive it went like stink but also smoked like a tramp steamer.

What's the safe limit for a TD5? Those are great figures and l assume at the wheels.

It equates to 40% more power. Will the engine hold up in the long term?
 
I've done virtually the same & Mine ran those figures for 4 years plus I had the alive over boost module fitted with out batting an eyelid. Done 60k over them 4 years pulling trailers 50% of the time too. Chassis gave up before the engine. Not for much longer though. Can't wait to get back behind the wheel. :D:D:D

more like 50%. the defender engines are de-tuned to enable them run in any climate and run on any crap diesel. the tuning sets up the engine to run on British climates and decent fuel quality. if you start to go down the root of upgrading turbo's etc (200 +) then you will start to strain some parts i.e clutch.

great fun, love driving it.
 
I've an Alive map and all the same mods to the op plus a VNT, Alisport manifold and few other small bits and pieces and it goes very well indeed and no smoke at all.
 
200hp and ~380nm would be the 'safe' limit. After that big bucks have to be spent to keep it reliable, that said all are different theres a few R380 boxes running 400nm+ for a while
