Hi, could anybody give me a quick/brief lowdown on how the handbrake works on my Defender 90 1991 200tdi. Am I right in saying that it does not connect to the rear discs with a cable like most ordinary cars? I have a Disco rear axle fitted to my Defender with rear disc brakes.

Thanks Terra Dog

Transmission brake on rear transfer output-look for brake drum

Would it be too much to ask to just go outside and have a look? It's pretty flamin obvious if you can be bothered to bend down and peer under the bloody landy.

Give the new guy a break, he is trying to learn....on the other hand...bit of a point as well Terra Dog...I see everyones point of view, but just tonight, Mr angry 2moz

At the risk of starting an argument I belive the handbrake locks the rear prop only. To lock both props you need to engage diff lock and lock up the centre diff as well, its there to allow the front and rear diffs to turn at different speeds.
