London. BUT I'M STILL HUMAN.
Hi Guys, i am currently away from home, visiting family in Saffs moorlands. On the way here last night, my 110 started making a strange grinding/grumbling noise from the back when i took my foot off the accelerator. It makes the hole vehicle vibrate. What do you think it is? It seems like it's coming from the rear drivers side, but i'm not really sure. Will i make the 160 miles home?

Cheers, Steve

Propshaft? Wheel bearing? Could be anything but I'd check the propshafts first. You're going to have to get under there and have a look.

also check the condition of brake pads too, I wouldn't drive it until you have a look (maybe a few miles to a garage) you could make the problem worse..

ie. bearings braking and damaging the stub axle or hub = more cost to you!

uj's would be my first guess cos there easy to fix.I wouldnt drive it 160 miles, id get it flat bedded b the aa as mentioned above!

read the AA/RAC recovery policy for how long from joining to being recovered normally 24 hours or so.
join wait the period of time 24-48 hours and get a lift home-not the way they like but who cares.

Thanks for the advice. I've had it on axle stands and checked the prop, uj's wheel bearings, the diff pinion is fine and i've fiddled with everything else i can think of. I'll play it safe with recovery until i can get it to a garage.

Cheers!

So to summarise: the Truck is now leaking a worrying amount of Power Steering fluid from the steering box and clutch fluid from the pedal, not to mention the growing drip from the gearbox. And i've checked the drive flanges and half-shafts- both seem to be fine, and don't look worn at all. So i'm all out of ideas. Garage time i think.

Can't think of anything else just now that might be causin' the grinding apart from yer diff. Unless it's the bearings on yer output shafts on the T-box????
