Defender Cab.

Suppose it has been discussed on here a thousand times, but why don't they make the cab a couple of inches wider, or move the bloody drivers seat a couple of inches towards the centre so your right arm and shoulder have a bit of room to manouvere.

Mate bought a new 110 and told me to have a drive in it, jumped in closed the door and almost knocked myself into the passenger seat as the door hit me. It's a major flaw for me, the rest of the drive was ok.

u have to put the window down and put ure arm out, like a true defender driver !!! lol

You need the basic 'pre-defender driving course' (winter)..... this can be done in the comfort of your own home.

1) take a folder newspaper and place under the right armpit.
2) Cook a fried breakfast, make a pot of tea, eat breakfast and drink tea...THEN remove the newspaper and read.
3) With newspaper under right arm pit... take a ****.... while seated you are allowed to read the paper however it must be replaced before reaching for the toilet roll.
4) Keeping the newspaper in situe log on to your pc... read emails and practice mouse movements without the newspaper falling to the floor.

After a repeating the above for a week you will be ready to drive your Land Rover.... keep the newspaper under your armpit for 50 miles (no motorway driving) and you will then have completed the course. You will be a better person... you wont be bitchy and you will enjoy the Land Rover experience.

For summer driving.... just open the drivers door window and allow your arm some 'summer' space.
I have a 50 inch chest and this course changed my life for the better.

learn to rest your arms on your leg and hold the bottom of the steering wheel?

Or just open the window, even in winter i do it at times. Like anything really, you get used to it after a wee while...

Aye, spent over 30 years as a truck driver with my arm out of the window, it would just be "nice" not to have to do it in retirement.

I suppose it comes down to the fact that they didn't and if you can't live with it then a LR (Series or Defender) is not for you.

The progression from Series to Ninety/Oneten to Defender has been gradual with no major redesign whereas widening the body would have had serious cost implications so I guess that is why it never happened.

You could always try a Perentie 6x6 (if you can find one) or a 101 as they are wider.

Thanks for the reply Litch. Suppose been 20 stone makes the problem worse.

Do you think sales would go up if the cab was brought into this century. It could still be made functional, but a wider cab and better seating would enhance it for many large prospective purchasers.

Been to have a look at a New Defender 90 XS, just over £28 grand. While its off road capabilities cannot be bettered, in the actual comfort sense they leave a lot to be desired. Also another few grand and you are into base Disco 4 territory.
