IN MY SHED
Today I noticed my Cyclone breather was dribbling oil
The oil looks like it has been running down the block and then on to the sump as it was covered in oil
I knew it had an oil leak but didnt think it was that bad
Should I be worried about oil coming from the cyclone breather?

The cyclone breather was replaced around six months ago
although the pipe does look tatty

The oil was also on the lip of the cylinder head behind the cyclone breather
Engine does smoke slightly on start up, but nothing after
she also pulls like a train
I'm starting to think it's engine rebuild time!

Dead common tdi fault, as Foxy says new o-ring and a little silicone sealant.

I forgot to say the rocker gaskets and D bits are also dead common for weeping.
Rocker gasket under 2 quid
D bits 40p each x2
Top bolt seals 80p each x3

Doddle to do and you have to unbolt and slide the cyclone out of the way so you can reseal that at the same time.
A little silicone on the bottom of the D seals when fitting helps enormously.

Cheers lynall
Cleaned the engine off Today
Then soaked and cleaned the cyclone breather, fitted a new o-ring and went for a test drive.
The o-ring worked a treat no more leaks, but it is leaking from the rocker gasket so have ordered x1 and a new pipe from paddocks

Thanks again
Another job done

Morning all
Update,
Whilst pulling into the driveway on Friday night, I noticed a horrible chuffing noise coming from the engine.
On inspection, I could hear and feel pressure coming from the injector directly behind the cyclone breather.
I was ****ting myself!
Thinking it was the head gasket or something worse!

But after a bit of research and a text message from Mr G, advising me to change the injector copper seal, I stopped felling sick.

So yesterday, I spent the morning cleaning out the rocker cover & fitting a new rocker gasket, D seals and the top fixing seals.
The old tatty cyclone breather pipe was replaced, along with a cyclone breather.
And while everything was off, I removed the injector and fitted a new copper washer
the injector was covered in carbon so that was also cleaned off with turps ( had no paraffin).
The injector housing was also cleaned out using a old rag, well one of the wife's tea towels ha ha
Oh and getting the old seal out was fun, until I found an old brick tie and cut & bent the end off, to resemble and hook, and used that to fish it out.
Finally once every thing was back together, I went for a test run.

No oil leak,
And no more chuffing noise!
Just goes to show, I still have, so much to learn about my Defender.

Thank you guys for your advise
another job done, and one less oil leak.

Its not uncommon for the 200 head gasket to blow around the back of the head on no4 cylinder and thats makes a pretty good chuffing sound, I left mine so long its burnt the paint off the bulkhead:D
