Hi Everyone,

My dads Defender was stolen in the early hours of 20th October 2011!

No idea how they managed it without making a sound!

Reg plate is V862 EEC. Its blue with white roof, utility, full roof rack, standard wheels, doesn't look anything special as it is covered in dints and hasn't been modified in anyway other than having rock sliders on and new seats. There's a sunflower and windmill in the window...which isn't a common thing so it might make it stand out but I'd imagine these will have been stripped by now.

Probabaly no chance of getting it back but if anyone hears anything any info would be gratefully received.

Thanks

It had a hefty chain round the steering wheel and attached to floor but i've heard they go underneath and disconnect steering to get round steering locks.

Worst thing is its put my dad off buying another defender!! I hate the fact these thugs have won!

I am only down the road in Chesterfield and it makes me a bit more nervous about mine. I have been thinking about anti theft stuff but nothing seems to be fool proof. Mine has alarm, immobiliser, stop lock, battery box padlocked shut and the plastic bit of the bonnet release cable broken off so you have to use pliers to open the bonnet. However the best anti theft I have got is parking my wife's new golf right in front of it to block the drive. Mostly because it would be a lot harder to shift that and get the defender out without me noticing.

im in worksop and ill keep an eye out as i allways look hard at any landy i pass out of interest

I would go up for a wander around there, I'm not saying that travellers are prone to thieving but I will make sure the lead on my roof is firmly nailed down

Not heard of that one before.

But I guess it would only work if they bring a low-loader / Hi AB. A way round that is to park on full steering lock (wheelswise), that way it won't go straight forwards or backwards. (won't stop a Hi Ab, but there you go).

The hefty chain could of been frozen and shattered with refridgerant spray. Or just bolt cuttered off.

Thanks for the support, don't think it was the circus people as someone tried to get in our garden and damaged the lock on the defender about a year ago too.

I'll stick some pics on when I figure out how too.

Sorry about quality but you get the idea...
