i know i should have cats but i thought on lpg its ok to get rid of them, somebody has cut the insides if mine out and now sounds crap and it still past a mot

ya this sounds like a good plan mate i think i might just do that. all good fun. i did see some were on this site someone saying a v8 with lpg dont need cats
Under the regs if it was fitted when new got to be there. I want to remove centr box on mine. Was going to cut it off and fit a cherry bomb, but thinking of opening box up and removing the baffels

Yes do as above to make it look like you have cats. Car must still be tested on fuel it is running on when presented. So it will pass emissions but if you decat it it will fail on not having a cat fitted. New MOT rules Dated 1st Jan 2012. Applies to diesels also.

They don't need cats to pass the emissions test. But have always needed them under construction and use regulations, but not on MOT until Jan 1st that is. They are definatly needed now. Who ever said that was wrong.

May you please do a tutorial for that??:)
Got that last week

doesnt apply to diesels, on vehicles that qualify for a full emissions test check for the presence of a cat.
if it is missing its a fail so petrol or lpg fail.
diesels do not have a full emissions test just a smoke test so not a fail.

I think that you'll now find that if it had a cat when it left the factory then it's got to have a cat to pass the new regulations.

well just going by what the mot manual says and after talking to the mot testers i used to work with they agree diesels do not have full emissions test and do not have a cat anyway so do not fail!

Until you get pulled over by VOSA that is. Construction and use regulations. MOT testers manual. Exhaust system general condition.
Reason for fail. "Catalytic converter missing were one was fitted as standard". Maybe open to interpretation.

everything is open to interpretation!
mot tester has to follow what the book says and a diesel does not have a cat so you cant fail it for not having one as it never had one!
and as an ex mot tester myself cant see how you could fail a diesel for having the pf removed. as it does not have full emissions test dont have to check for it being there and as it is not a cat cant fail it.
if anyone did have there diesel failed for not having a cat i would appeal straight away.
