For the 2nd time in 6 weeks i get up and go to hit the c/l button and nothing happens, its an 05 td5 xs

no power in battery as its drained over night

I know that no lights have been left on

are there any relays/solenoids prone to sticking in the energized position and dragging the charge down when left

the batt was checked by LR assist guy the 1st time and its all ok

its reall begining to p*** me off
Help

Do you actually know if the alternator is charging? So did it happen overnight or was the battery actually flat when you shut down the night before?

Get yersel a multimeter set to amps, take the + lead off the battery and put the multimeter on the post of the battery then put the other lead to the + battery lead and see if you have any amp draw when everything is powered down. I think ypu should have no more than about 1amp coming out, anymore suggests you have a problem somewhere

been through the full battery test/charge current as the alternator is "smart charge" and is ok.

with ign all off static load is 0.03a if you have 1a static load you have a major fault as an interior light is about 0.3(not picking faults with adivice just sharing what info i know)

its only happened twice

1st time 3.2vdc charge left
2nd time 11.1vdc charge left but low enough to disable the c/l remotes and set the alarm/imobliser into tamper state.

it has to be either a residual voltage leak holding a relay or solenoid, or just sticky mechanicals in the electrical system somewhere, was just wondering if there are any common culprits as its my 1st defender and iam just learning there little ways at the mo

It got down to 3.2v over what time period? How long ago was it since the lsat time? How long did it take to get down to 11v this time? What was the battery efficiency when it was tested last time?

Have you used it at night before your probles, cos if so and alternator kanckered then you will be dragging battery down (with lights etc) without knowing it

both times it was parked at about 8 in the evening and I was back out to it about 7 in the morning. the 2 times were today and about 3 weeks ago

Only info I have to hand on battery test is:
12.50 v
measured at 542 cca
rated 620cca

that gives your battery an efficiency of 87%.

I take it the landrover assist guy charged your battery either by a 20 min drive or by a 12 or so hour trickle charge, then removed the residual current and then tested your battery?

If the voltage on the battery test was 12.5 volts it would sound like it has a lower efficiency than 87%. At 75% efficient the battery is scrap.

Its funny you should go for the battery as if i (from a petrol tuning background) had to select a battery for a 2.5tdi it would be around 900cca, i think i shal have a new bat under warranty, but if its batt then why only fail twice in all this time
