Police could take the camera or memory card as evidence against you I would guess. Those that have gps give tracking and speed. Those without gps still record at fixed frames per second, so passing between 2 fixed points over a period of time would give average speed, if you knew the distance between fixed points.

There was a bloke on a bike who filmed himself driving oft from his house and doing silly speeds. Don't take much effort to work out where he lives, once you the sign for which motorway he joins.

seems good, would be a little wary of the audio recording, some of the conversations on work journeys could be incriminating if heard by a third party.

Not sure if the police can seize the recording at the scene of an accident without a warrant ?

I know what you mean! My taste in music is crap too. :D

I doubt it. When you export you can choose with or without audio.

I always thought the police could "take" items of evidence if there was a crime, as evidence. Do we know how this would work or if it's true?

I don't see why they couldn't, if they believe a crime has taken place they can take evidence.

The one I have in my car is fitted behind the rear view mirror so quite hard to spot unless you're looking for it.

You can only see the GPS data and g-sensor readings if you use special software to view the memory chip, if you just open it up in windows you just get a bunch of video files with no other data but I am sure they could shop you if they really tried.

anyone know of an ebay job or similar twin camera 1080p that isn't stupid money and is decent quality

Roadrunner 500 Car Video Recorder Prestigio

was £111 from amazon .. aint a 'twin cam' .. no gps ..
doesn't come supplied with a sd card
pic quality is ok .. but one has to be fairly close to make out other vehicles reg. plates
the wide angle lens does cause pic distortion ( e.g. lampost on pic '5' )

i chose it partly 'cause i can't run the windows software supplied with others
'n can do without the gps feature
plus it has adjustable .. video size / iso / exposure compensation / 'scene' / colour .. settings

can also be used to take still photos ..

the cam itself feels a bit cheap .. plastic 'chrome' buttons .. but it's lite weight ..
comes with a carry case that protects the lens 'n has a belt-loop ..

despite having anti-shake software .. i still had to dash-mount it
'n wedge a block of memory foam under it to get smooth vids on bumpy roads
( have never tried the windshield mount options )
i addapted mini-mobile-phone type mount to use with it ..
as i rekon the constant clipping/unclipping the original mount would break it at somepoint
( i don't leave it in the car when i get out for shopping etc )

instuction manual pdf download link ( 319kb ) :

some video 'stills' attached ( been testing various settings .. like iso / exposure / scene .. etc )

Number plate reading and I'd like rear view

I also like the automatic incident logger on roadhawk etc - someone traded paint with mine in Asda carpark while I was shopping. Would have loved to ruin the bastard if I had been able to see his or her number plate.

The other day a person decided to cut across sold white lines from lane one into slip road slip I was on and without any indication almost took the front of my car off- Im looking 1920 x1080 front and rear Ideally- I don't want interpolated and would rather higher frame rate over digitally enhanced low frame rate

Im also dubious to purchase anything unless I can see what the night recording quality is like

Check out Roadhawk mate, it looks the dogs danglies. Pricey but you get what you pay for.

Not that this would apply to me - honest :p:D:eek:

But what if you are a crap driver, can they be used against you :D

I've gone on Land owners dash cam thread advice for the moment.

Reason being is I want a motorbike/car twin camera solution and haven't found the ideal device.

I want better quality eventually, but my experience tells me that a lot of the higher resolutions will be interpolated or the frame rate will lower at higher resolutions.

Or they will be useless at night

I did consider GPS- but then that can incriminate you if you don't hang about for instance.

So a compromise

i got a camera the other day it is not the dearest but is hd and gives a reasonable recording got it in maplin only problem it sticks on windscreen with screen hanging down disco screen not the best for the bracket
