D2 - Fitting Reversing Camera - How Do I Get The Wiring To The Reverse Lights?

Hi
I'm replaced my standard premium head unit on my 2003 D2 with a newer one so that I can use my microSD and USB music. It's got a built in monitor for a reversing camera.

I thought I'd have issues with the sound especially the amplifier and sub but the new system plugs in easily and actually sounds much better, crisper and has great bass at low volumes. I'm well pleased!

I've wired everything up for the camera but just need to get the wiring to the reversing lights.

Any ideas how I can take the wiring from inside the rear to outside the car?

I'm a bit confused, why would you bring a reverse input to outside the vehicle?

Maybe there's an easier way but the head unit has a camera input.

Connecting it to the reverse lights switches on the camera and reverse camera mode on the head unit.

When the reverse lights are disengaged, the screen returns to normal.

I've run the rear camera video wire from the head unit going behind the dash and under the carpet and into the back of my D2.

The head unit has 2 inputs for the reverse camera - One for the video input and the other for switching on the camera function as soon as reverse is selected.

The other end of the video wire is connected to the camera. The camera also needs power so I'd like to run the feed of the reverse lights.

Whatever happens, I still need to run the camera wire going outside the vehicle as I plan to mount it just under the bumper.

Any better suggestions?

Find the rubber grommet thats in the boot floor that would be used if a trailer lighting loom is installed, and which the loom would pass through to the outside the vehicle, then route the cable to your camera position, cable tie as needed to safely secure. Simples

Great... I'm guessing its a case of removing the carpet trim in the boot and rolling back the carpet to reveal the grommet?

I took our wire in the space behind the rear wheel arch to the rear light fitting and down to the bumper that way. I made a mistake in mounting the camera to the bumper as it us hard to drill cleanly.

Only if you wish to, just lift the carpet to expose the floor below and in the area of the offside rear light, u should be able to see the grommet with the aid of a touch from underneath your vehicle.
I take it you don’t already have a tow bar with a lighting socket fitted.

I've got the towbar with the electrics. Just can't seem to find an easier way to get both the video and live feeds from the boot to outside or at least the rear light cluster.

I know Brian said he took the feed over the rear arch and to the right rear light - how do you get to the rear light cluster from the boot?

I mounted my reversing camera below high level brake light in tailgate.
Gives a lovely view to rear of car.
Decided against mounting camera outside as it meant constantly cleaning the lens especially when it's wet and getting road spray thrown up.
Mounted inside its always a clean lens and the rear wiper keeps window clean, lol.

Where did you get the reverse feed from?

So just can the loom a on the tow bar so trace it to where it enters the vehicle through the boot floor, slide a long cable tie, or stiff wire if u have too, up through the grommet along side the loom and look for it in the boot, if may be behind the boot side panel similar to the D1s may be not.

D1s as far as installing wires from the front of the vehicle is the same, my wiring goes under the drivers door tread plate around the B pillar and then under the passenger door tread plate, then up and the edge of the boot floor under the carpet and seats then through the floor to the outside following alongside the trailer lighting loom.

U may find an unused grommet in the boot floor on the near side in the similar position, as the D1 has.

That's exactly how I've routed my wires. I'm now sitting in the boot figuring out whether to lift the carpet and look for the grommet or, feed the wires (somehow) into the slatted plastic vent on the right which hopefully should lead me to the right rear light cluster.

So mounting the camera high up doesn’t effect the coloured position lines that the camera places on the ground then.
My jag’s camera is self cleaning due to the material the lens is made from, and is mounted low near the number plate although the centre on the boot area stays quite clean while the outside is grotty and very dirty this weather.

I tapped into the reverse light supply near to where it enters the bulb holder, but if you need if at the front at the then it can be at the fuse box on the reverse light fuse.

Yes remove the slatted plastic vent and the resr light cluster. I can't remember why now, but for some reason I took the wires up to the lights and then down to the bumper.
