D2 Facelift Headlights stolen too.

I'm a fan of the DNA process so there are a few Stanley blades in the gap where the toe rags grab the lights to pull them out. There are warning signs on the bulkhead for legitimate mechanics etc.
+1 on the stainless straps I have those also.

So 6 years on from the original post are post-facelift lights still being nicked?
Surely the retrofit market has dropped to a level that makes selling them on difficult and therefore theft pointless, and I cannot believe that with the ready availability of bright LEDs that Disco lights are being used for cannabis cultivation anymore.

I don't think that prices have dropped in the retrofit market, if your lamps go missing you are into £500+, I don't believe that they are used in grow rooms that is HID or LED. The market must still be in facelifting earlier models or people replacing stolen items.

sorry to hear this.

I am a police officer in Wakefield and as i run a Farmwatch and also cover wildlife crime i am usually in charge of any Land rover related thefts.

I can confirm that these headlights are very regularly stolen, one couple I know through work have been hit 9 times before i got in touch with some advice.

after the last 2 criminals i caught and put through court for this I can confirm that it is a very very fast process.
through CCTV i can state that from them getting out of their car, removing both headlights and getting back into their car took 21 seconds.

the basic advice is as follows:

-park the front of your vehicle as close to a wall or other car etc as possible, you cannot remove these lights side on you need to be stood in front of the vehicle to generate the force required to remove them.

- engrave your post code in the top of the light. although this doesnt do much it may prevent buyers and therefore reduce the market.

- motion sensor, i got the couple i spoke of to fit this and it saved their lights last time. they are £15 on ebay and about 3 wires, put it behind the grill and wire it to your alarm. when someone walks to front of your car it goes off and is very loud. this made them do a runner.
problem is cant really use it in car parks etc as will be forever going off.

- best one in my opinion is stainless steel straps. i have a photo at work i can upload, but its basically 4 stainlss steel strap bands (2 per light) run over the front of the light at each end anbolt in behind the bumper at the bottom and to the smash panel at the top under the bonnet. when you look at the car you just see 2 thin tidy straps running vertical up the lights, in stainless they look quite good in my opinion and basically they make it so you cant pull the lights out. I am now actively encouraging all my farmers to do this and a few already have. just note where you position the straps for MOT reasons.

hope this helps

Hello ashleywood.ash, We had our facelift headlights stolen this week too. We are in Derby. I am interested in the motion sensor idea as well as straps. Do you have any links that would lead me to the correct products at all please? Thank you, Phillip

I will certainly adopt the strap approach! I am a new member to the Land Rover club having just got a discovery 2. I didn’t realise the headlights were so desirable.
Thanks for the advice

I’ve recently upgraded the front lights and grill on my D3. I’ve screwed the front grill to the front panel, so it’s not coming off easily.

As a fully paid up member of the Plod Club, have a look at these:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/davidfin...pv4AAOSwCORexaC7&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2562

This guy is selling the V5 and chassis plate for two Land Rover 90s. States that both were on a galvanised chassis that have been sold without identity.

And this one:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/202827298355?ul_noapp=true

Has broken a Series 3, sold the chassis and bulkhead and now has various bodywork parts and engine and the V5 and chassis plates.

Oh it gets worse than that...
Me:
It's people like you who make ringing a car a piece of ****!
Him:
Absolutely, why would you want to ring a heap of scrap like a Landrover, you have obviously either never driven one or if you have you have never driven a proper 4x4 like a Patrol or Pathfinder.
Me:
I own a 1961 Series 2, a 1993 Defender, a 1996 Discovery 1 and a 2002 Discovery 2. If Land Rovers are so crap, WHY are they being stolen so often? Made easier by c***s like YOU selling a V5 and chassis plates!
Him:
FYI, have more series V5's for sale also some for Defenders & Disco's so let me know if you are interested in any of this junk

I didn't reply to that. Wouldn't want to tip him off..

So, to get this clear in my head, a bunch of tealeaves or at least dealers in dodgy goods have reported you? For what? Emailing them? Or phoning them?
I thort I understood that as a "fully paid up member of the Plod club" you actually are a Poliss, or do you just subscribe to their values?
Ebay themselves surely, if stolen or dodgy good being sold on their site are reported to them, and they do nothing about it, are aiding and abetting them, aren't they? In which case the bolloxing should be going to their seller, not you. At the very least, shouldn't they be helping the Poliss to crack down on these beggars? Or is it a question of county lines and different jurisdictions?
This is totally beyond me!

I'm a welder, not a policeman. The person i replied to on here IS a policeman. The guy selling the chassis plates and V5s clearly took offence at the tone of my messages(copied in a previous post above) and reported me to ebay. Ebay of course turn a blind eye to people selling illegal things. My cousin bought two Sandisc memory cards for his camera, which turned out to be counterfeit good. He confirmed this by contacting Sandisc direct. He confronted the seller who offered a refund after he had returned the goods. My cousin refused stating that they were counterfeit, didn't work and had binned them. So got two fingers from the seller. So he contacted ebay. Their response was 'sorry, but until the genuine manufacturer contacts us direct and officially makes a complaint, we aren't interested!'
Basically, as long as they get their listing fees, they don't care!
As i said, i'm a welder. So when i saw gas welding goggles converted to hold an auto darkening lens and advertised for use when arc welding, MIG welding and TIG welding, i contacted them and asked them to either stop selling them or change the description stating that they are suitable for use with electric arc welding.
I also pointed out that in every picture on their page they show people only welding with a full face mask. Why was that? Would it be because if people used the product they were selling, the welder would end up with very bad skin burns?
They just kept insisting that they were safe, suitable to wear when electric arc welding and that i didn't know what i was talking about.
So i contacted ebay and told them. Explained that the arc gives out the same rays as the sun except in this case the 'sun' is about three feet away from you! Ebay suggested i contact my local HSE if i was bothered. I asked why? THEY aren't selling PPE that is as much use as a chocolate fire guard!

Right! Get it now! Sorry for appearing thick!
Ebay need to get their act together, as they are obviously aiding and abetting criminal acts. Maybe there is some way of reporting their acts to some authority, the Trading Standards and Advertising Standards ought to be interested. and of course there is that bloke on the TV who chases this sort of stuff, and I don't mean Joe Lychee, although he can be quite funny, no the other one whose name escapes me but is on Watchdog, i think.
What is also interesting is that you read and hear about so many complaints where the Ebay seller gets into troubel cos a buyer complains and then they get no support from Ebay!
Looks like Ebay are just playing both sides towards the middle and, as you say, taking the money and running.
Absolutely get your point about the goggles. Totally stupid. I can only weld with Arc and Mig (not trained man) but i would never dream of buying goggles for all the reasons you give! As for the Sandiscs, it is so obvious they wanted them back to sell on to some poor unsuspecting buyer
Maybe Mr Poliss further up thread will read all this and have some ideas! Great post by the way!

This is why I never sell anything on Ebay and only buy on Ebay when i absolutely have to!:):):)

Just noticed you are the same guy as the one I have been helping with the tow bar plug!
