I'm a welder, not a policeman. The person i replied to on here IS a policeman. The guy selling the chassis plates and V5s clearly took offence at the tone of my messages(copied in a previous post above) and reported me to ebay. Ebay of course turn a blind eye to people selling illegal things. My cousin bought two Sandisc memory cards for his camera, which turned out to be counterfeit good. He confirmed this by contacting Sandisc direct. He confronted the seller who offered a refund after he had returned the goods. My cousin refused stating that they were counterfeit, didn't work and had binned them. So got two fingers from the seller. So he contacted ebay. Their response was 'sorry, but until the genuine manufacturer contacts us direct and officially makes a complaint, we aren't interested!'
Basically, as long as they get their listing fees, they don't care!
As i said, i'm a welder. So when i saw gas welding goggles converted to hold an auto darkening lens and advertised for use when arc welding, MIG welding and TIG welding, i contacted them and asked them to either stop selling them or change the description stating that they are suitable for use with electric arc welding.
I also pointed out that in every picture on their page they show people only welding with a full face mask. Why was that? Would it be because if people used the product they were selling, the welder would end up with very bad skin burns?
They just kept insisting that they were safe, suitable to wear when electric arc welding and that i didn't know what i was talking about.
So i contacted ebay and told them. Explained that the arc gives out the same rays as the sun except in this case the 'sun' is about three feet away from you! Ebay suggested i contact my local HSE if i was bothered. I asked why? THEY aren't selling PPE that is as much use as a chocolate fire guard!
