My other half has brought up the option of fitting some driving lamps we have in the garage to the 300tdi. They are the proper Land Rover driving lamps and I have the appropriate wiring already.
Only issue is deciding on positioning and number of lamps.

I've made a few mock ups and thought I'd put it to you guys for a vote.

Option 1: Standard front end:

Option 2: Twin lamps

Option 3: Twin lamps slightly inset

Option 4: Twin lamps middle of the grille

Option 5: Triple lamps

Option 6: Quad lamps

I'm biased if course, BUT:

Would like to see an image of both lights in the centre, in a 60s Mustang theme.

Just for the hell of it whilst we're chin scratching.

Otherwise my current preference is Option 3 for style, option 6 for performance (probably unnecessary though for a roadie?)

options 3 or 4 for looks - twin lamps inset

4 lamps for bad ass overkill. just please dont go with 3 lamps - i still feel kinda squiffy after looking at that pic :D

Good point! Yes it is only used on the black stuff.
However, we do live out in the sticks and compared to our previous D1 which was fitted with a pair of the same lamps, the illumination on unlit country roads from main beam alone is nowhere near as powerful then with the driving lamps tied in to come on with the main beam.

You are very right about the illumination, mainly because pencil spotlamps are not limited to the same reflector regs the normal headlamps are!

Just bear in mind that you would be blocking air flow - to one extent or another - to the radiator and intercooler by these positions.

Has made zero difference to cooling in mine Dave and mine's a sweaty v8

Some folk made a point of it on my thread but I was always under the impression that there must be enormous air pressure in front of a moving vehicle and it would just love to find a way to escape through the radiator, whether or not it has to go around some lamps

This does in fact seem to be the case, as such I wouldn't worry about it, especially in our climate

It could be said that removing the viscous fan AND having a few lights up front could lead to higher temps as air pressure behind the rad will be higher but even so I don't think there is anywhere near enough obscurity to cause a noticeable effect

I will however eat my hat if your engine explodes :)

Not too worried about cooling given that I've fitted the truck with the hot climate grille for increased air flow, this coupled with the fact that it actually runs slightly cool on the gauge during normal driving.

Keep the ideas coming, gents! :)
