D1 boot floor repair

Ok..... I know the boot floor need to be solid to pass an mot IF you have the fold down seats in the back. So my question is this:

If I remove the rear 6th & 7th seats and belts can I checkerplate the boot with one solid piece cut to size, riveted down and sealed????
 
It needs to be solid for the rear seats as well, the seat belt anchors pass through the boot floor and bolt to the brackets on the chassis. Chequer plate is still fine though.
 
So I can get rid of the fold down seats and belts and as long as the checkerplate has holes that allow the rear seatbelt points to pass through and bolt to the chassis as before I can have checkerplate.

I really like the idea of checkerplate in the boot. It's solid won't rust and can take a beating of stuff thrown in back.
But I keep getting mixed answers some say it's not allowed and some saying they have seen it done and pass MOT no problems

????
 
i would say do the boot floor as normal with repair panel and put a rubber mat in the boot floor as you will get the hump with stuff sliding about in the boot on the checker plate. normal panels are pretty sturdy once repaired.

I've removed my fold down seats and put an original panel back in simply cos i got my hands on it for cheap but that was shear luck, i was going to do the chequer plate floor. From reading a few threads on here the boot floor panels are a bit flimsy / waffer thin and cost a lot for what they are. So long as you use the proper mounting points you will be fine.
 
I don't like the idea of spending £150+ on OEM parts that are paper thin and will rot again in 5 years when I can buy a sheet of checker plate for £40 That will never rot and is thick and strong. And in my opinion looks better.
 
I just need to make sure it's allowed for MOT purposes as long as it's done properly
 
Hi have I fitted ali checker plate cross braced with new steel struts bolted in place with stainless steel bolts and penny washers, redrilled the holes for seats and belts that was 2 years ago and it keeps passing it MOT,l solid as a rock and no rot .

Ok in your world it never happend, but in my world I drive round in it every day, so I am living in never never land. 200 tdi 1993 white 5 door 7 seats Disco, if you still dout, I will try to find some photos or take some for the douting Thomas.
 
I believe you. But some pics would be great. Not to verify but so I can see what it would look like and how to do it best.

Lighten up a bit mate. Nobody's doubting you've done it - it's just that we like pictures on here we do. I'm particularly interested as I've done the driver's floor and aim to do everything including the boot. I want to see how you've overcome the gap between the floor and the bottom of the boot trim - mine will need 12mm of spacing between the plate and the floor to reach the trim. :D

did my vitara with plate as the panels cost a fortune and were rocking horse **** rare as well.
i used 2mm. made a huge difference to the rear end. stiffened it up massively and passed 3 mots no probs. was a pain to weld the plate to the thin suzuki stuff but we did it
only thing that got on my nerves was everthing skidding about. so in the end i painted it with some of that textured paint stuff. which helped with the issue.
