ps. nrgserve - I was just concerned about having an ignition system in bits on a bench - they can bite!

I definitely had a grin on my face when it fired up :D it was nice to have (kind of) figured it out myself too as oppose to just following steps.

Although it was a stupid mistake I was only able to rectify it because I understood how it all worked and that was only down to you lot sharing your knowledge until it all clicked for me so I am really very grateful for that.

twas in the name of research to prove you guys right and me wrong. tho at the time, i thought it was the other way round.
was gonna post write up with pics on where to test but as its not needed now, theres just the pics.

I have a question with regards to the SAFETY:

If the LT has worked and then the points broken the HT circuit is then charged right. If connected the king lead would run to earth via the plugs. BUT, if you are testing and let's say the king lead is therefore disconnected and not able to ground, does the voltage stay in the coil (does it basically stay 'charged') until the next time the king lead gets grounded? ...I am just wondering if I have to make sure the king lead is always grounded to earth with all appropriate precautions (using pair of insulated pliers/gloves) before I can handle the lead and coil without concern or whether the high voltage somehow dissipates over time?
 
voltage doesent stay in the coil. sometimes you'll hear a crack as a spark
jumps from the coil nose to earth, i had it jumping to another coil terminal when testing.
if no spark evident, voltage dissipates.
its good practice to be cautious of any ht lead while ignition is on tho.
