Crank shaft oil seal?

Corteco seals are decent.

Garter spring side of the crank seal goes to the oil, timing cover seal garter spring goes to the outside air.
That's interesting with regards to the outer seal, I thought ours was the wrong way round, it is how you describe. However, I have seen a couple of videos where the lip on the seal is on the outside and the spring is on the inside.

The only place I can see it can get into the timing chest is if the gasket has failed in the general area of the red highlighted area. Between the cover and the chest.
I am not 100% sure that it isn't leaking out of the gasket between block and timing chest also as for some reason known only to the specialists they have had the top chest bolts out also.
To be honest I'm trying to avoid taking the chest off if I can.
Already had to change water pump gasket as they sent it back leaking, for the 2nd time.
Appreciate the replies.

Curious that they did not move the lip from the idler to the crank, like they did on the 300.

Initially the 300 had no lip, then the belts started to break as they shuffled forwards and wore the belt away on the chest cover, different types of repair kit depending on chassis/engine number.

That is because people have no idea how a seal works.

Took the belt and gears off, removed timing case, cleaned up, put new gaskets on, put the case back on and the gears.
Nothing broke or snapped, tell a lie I damaged the new camshaft seal but being able to see into the future I bought two anyway 😀
Glad I'm not paying my labour charge, took me 6hrs! A fair bit of that time was finding suitable tools.
Hopefully I will get the belt and the rest done over the weekend.

Ok it's all done and back on the road.
First indication is the leaks have all gone, need to give it a proper test drive in the dry next time.
Replaced all the timing case and water pump bolts with new cap heads.
14cm m5 cap heads can be used in conjunction with crank puller to get the cambelt crank pulley off (if you put the crank bolt back in the hole.
Nothing broke so that's a plus.
