corroded ext.b-pillar mirrors

hi Lads! i wonder if it is possible to refurbish the mirrors and pillars when it is corroded? Do you have to replace them or can you use sandpaper,primer and paint to fix them? If so is it some special products you have to use? I don`t like all the plastics that it is available to hide it.Some suggestions out there?

dont upload to LZ

upload to photobucket.com then copy the links on to LZ instead..

someone has had a post on this and successfully rubbed down and re-painted to good effect.
